Heading on a cruise to Mexico, Cozumel to be exact, going with 7 other couples for a Thanksgiving Cruise.

I am very excited about the cruise, but very nervous too as I know I will be put to the test with ALL that food on the ship.

I have determined to eat only lean, high protein and good carbs. If I do slip, I'll hit the Gym and the exercise class!

Anyone else have this happen? I am only 15 weeks post band, down 51 lbs so far and want to hit Onderland by Christmas. So I really have to prepare to say NO to MYSELF!:cool2:

I was banded August 11, and vacationed at Playa del Carmen at an all-inclusive resort the first part of November. I actually ended up losing weight that week - 1/2 pound! The food was like being on a cruise -- all you could ever want all the time. I did what your plan is -- I tried to first grab the good protein (which, for me, was the shrimp -- LOVED it!!), and then really just ate a little bit of anything else I wanted. I was so surprised when what I wanted wasn't plateful after plateful! I ate reasonably, I didn't ration myself or feel deprived, I focused on my friends and the great fun we were having, and walked the beaches a lot! It was the first time I ever ate like what I think a normal personal would eat, and it was just awesome to feel that way.

I didn't think of it as a "slip" when I enjoyed what I wanted. That kind of thinking has always gotten me into a heap of trouble - good food vs. bad food = good person vs. bad person. Nothing was off-limits, but I just took my time and enjoyed every bite. If something wasn't as good as I thought it would be, I didn't finish it. I went back and found something else that I really loved, so I didn't spend calories on things that didn't thrill me. : )

You'll do great - and enjoy yourself in Cozumel!! I'm jealous, and I'm ready to go back!! : )

I too am heading on a cruise to the Bahamas this week. I too am nervous about the eating aspect. I am one year out from surgery and have lost 115 lbs. I also found out I am pregnant this week so all the fears of gaining the weight back is on my mind constantly. I guess all the calories from the margarita's I had planned on taking in won't be happening so I probably will not gain what I thought I might. Good luck with your cruise I hope you come back 10 lbs. lighter.

Thanks all of you who posted a reply. Well I made it back from the cruise, so afraid to step on the scales! While at sea for two days, I went to the Gym, jogged the Olympic track, slid down the huge slide on the Carnival Fantasy! (and the small one too, with my husband, something we never did before!) Got in the swimming pool, the hot tub, and danced every night away! So I got plenty of exercise! It was hard not to eat a lot after all that workout, but I found that I could not overeat! I stayed away from the buffets, only a couple of times the entire cruise, the last morning you HAVE to go to the buffet! I really enjoyed being with my family and friends, and dressing up was fun with my new weight! I actually wanted to get photos made this time! I ate the meals as they were brought to us in the dining room, trying to select low carbs. I did have the Hot Choclate Lava cake and Ice Cream one night. I was so stuffed, I hurt! But all in all I did good, I did not GAIN one pound, now I did not lose a pound either, but this was an accomplishment for me. I did not want to have to go back and take off weight that I had already lost! Since I have gotten back (two weeks) I have lost another 4.2 lbs. Moving right along. All of you cruisers out there, you can do it! You will look at cruising differently now and you can feel NORMAL in doing it! ENJOY life to the the fullest!

This is great! I'm looking forward to my next cruise, my mom who's an avid cruiser as well was like "You know Yvette you won't get to enjoy all that great food" and I'd rather not. The last time I hit a goal and went on a cruise, I came off a size bigger.. it will NOT happen this time! lol
