Denied, Appealed, Approved, Sceduled, Happy.

June 2009- Insurance denied my request for lap band surgery and claimed i had not ful-filled all of the requirements, which we BMI over 40, Co-Morbidities, and participation in a 2-year medically tracked diet/weight loss program. All of which i did.

June 2009- Appeal letter sent and we wait

.........................................................................................................................................................................

July 13th- Approval letter for the surgery arrives and i nearly pass out with excitement and happiness.

July 14th- Surgery is scheduled for July 30th. along with a one week follow up apppointment with the surgeon for a band fill.

im so excited. 2 problem though.

1. i have only told 2 of my friends and of course family. but i have no idea if i should tell people or just not say anything and continue to lose weight while people talk about me. im nervous people will think im anorexic since i wont be able to eat much but an ounce for a while. i start school on august 26 or 28 and im pretty sure i will still be on liquids by that time... meehhh

2. i have been constantly talking about the food i have to eat before i have the surgery. its driving my mom, and me crazy. I'm talking about what restaurants, and meals i still "have" to have before i cant eat anymore... grrr

Don't worry take it one day at a time. Right now everyone at work knows I"m going to have the surgery and they have all been very supportive. If you don't feel like talking about it then don't. That's your personal choice. As far as saying which foods you can have before the surgery, I think that's natural. I'm having the surgery hopefully at the end of August, beginning of September and have a list of resturants that I feel are necessary for me to go to lol. Will I get to them, probably not but it still helps mentally lol. I was on a 2 week liquid diet and cheated and went to Chilli's and had all the food I love and actually got sick from the grease. At times you will crave these items but when you have them they will not be that great. Good luck )

Don't fall into the last supper syndrome. You will be able to have food but less of it. You will make healthy choices and feel good about yourself. I bought a book, "Weight loss Surgery for Dummies" and it really helped me. As for other people, who cares what they think. If you feel comfortable sharing with them, do so. You are not obligated to give any explanations.

Good luck!!!

I DIDN'T TELL MY FAMILY. BUT MY COWORKERS KNOWS ABOUT IT BECAUSE 4 OF THEM HAVE THE LAPBAND. SOME PEOPLE WILL LOOK AT YOU AND WONDER WHY ARE YOU DOING THIS AND NOT JUST LOSE WEIGHT WITH OUT IT. THAT'S WHAT SOMEONE TOLD ME THAT FOUND OUT I HAD IT DONE.

LAP-BAND Patients

Hi guys. I am looking for some help! I was recently denied for the second time for lap band surgery and I need to write an appeal letter but I am not sure what details I should put in. Does anyone have a sample letter that got them approved that I can I can use? Please help, I am so desperate.
