I'm Scared!

Why am I so terrified!?!? I keep wondering if I’m not going to wake up… or something is going to go wrong during the surgery… or I’ll get home and be in terrible pain… ETC. ETC. ETC.

I’m due to get banded next Friday, 7/17. I started this journey in January. First it was just a thought. Then it was a determination. Now I’m here, and ready I Think.

HELP! Please help me feel at ease. I need shoulders! I don’t personally know anyone that’s had the procedure done. My family and friends are all very supportive, but they aren’t going under the “knife”.

QUESTION – Has anyone been banded by Top Surgeons in Beverly Hills, CA? How were you treated???

WELCOME to LBT!! I had the benefit of having had a major surgery a few years before the LB, so I wasn't too nervous, but I think everyone is. If you've been preparing since January, then you've got everything in place. Trust me, it's all worth it and I'd do it again in a heartbeat! You'll do great! -BG

I'm not so sure it's my fear of the surgery anymore... I think it's the fear of the doctor's office. Top Surgeons is a group of doctors right... so anyway, I just called to verify who MY doctor would be and it took them 10 minutes to figure it out. A few of those minutes were spent trying to figure out why she couldn't find that I had an appointment next week! “But you’re not scheduled next week…” UM YES I AM!!! That would make anyone nervous right?!?! Ugh! What the hell do I do now?

Perhaps it’s just the stupid people they have working there. I’ve run into that many times. I can’t assume the doctor is the same?... Or can I?

I felt exactly the same way, i couldnt sleep i tossed and turned over and over, was absolutely obsessed with everything you could ever worry about. I promise you it was a breeze compared to what i expected. I have had three c-sections and my gallbladder taken out and the lap band was disney land compared to those. I was sore (which is to be expected of course) felt like i had been punched in the gut and i had uncomfortable gas but nothing was as bad as i expected it to be. you will be fine, God bless.

I have to second the other comments you have received. This will be fine. I was banded on 01/23/09 and it was an easy outpatient surgery. I must say that I was worried. Had already had several major surgeries all with complications and was wondering what the heck am I doing having an elective surgery. The day of the surgery itself I was asking my husband if he was going to try talking me out of this because I was so nervous. My surgeon was great. Addressed all of my fears and made sure that I had extra medication/attention for nausea and vomiting which for me were an always complication with anesthesia. Everything turned out great. Some general soreness, more so at the port site but other than that no problems. Returned to my desk job in 3 days. I have never once been sorry I did this. While everyone is different, this should go well with only minor and short-lived discomfort. Just follow the guidelines they give you.

Don't be scared or nervous. Its easy and no complications for me. I was excited to have mine done and I would advice anyone to get it done. I came home the same day or shall i say that night. everything went great. the first night it the roughest cause i had problems when i layed down and then you try and get up it hurts . but other than that i did great of course with the pain medicine they give you it helps alot. good luck on your surgery and keep us posted.

i had mine done june 8 and didn't even use the pain medication they gave me. I never needed more than ibuprofen or aleve. the gas pain was the worst of it for me but that only lasted 2 days and wasn't bad enough for more than over the counter meds! I am having problems now with my gallbladder, but that is a whole different issue!

You are all so wonderful! Thank you for putting some of my fears at ease. I have a stupid cold right now so I’m too tired and sick to really be stressed about Friday… THIS FRIDAY! OK, so I’m not completely unaware that my surgery is now only a couple days away. But I’m definitely not as scared as I was last week. Which is strange. It will probably all kick in Thursday night and Friday morning. Honestly, right now, today, I FEEL GREAT! I am so excited! I am SOOOO excited! My new life starts in 3 days!

I hope you're doing well! It may hurt now, but it's worth ALL of it. I was banded in Dec. of 2003 and lost 145 pounds. Hang in there I know it's tough. Don't cheat on your diet -- you will prolapse and be back in for another surgery.
