Do you drink soda?

So I'm currently in the chat room and we were discussing if anyone drank soda/softdrink. One said that her doc allowed her to where as everyone else said that theres didn't.

My doc personally said no, unless it's flat which who really wants something like flat coke? I'd rather have Water. But in my mind if I drink soda it's like my stomach will start pulsating or something and I'll just keep vomitting, I know tha probably won't happen but still I keep thinking it will lol. Plus that and I don't want my pouch stretched.

So do you drink soda?

I have never been a big soda drinker, only when having my mixed drinks and that is only once in a while.

Last month I was on a cruise and was drinking Key West Coolers, (Passion Fruit Juice, Watermelon Syrup and Cranberry Juice with a splash of Sprite, honestly the Sprite was maybe a shot glass full.) The drinks were good, the fruit juices were very good and I had 1 or 2 a day.

I have to admit maybe it was the small amounts that I had of the Sprite, but it didn't hurt.

I did manage to lose 3 lbs on the cruise also, which was great.

I am having a heard time giving it up. my problem is finding something that is really good and I can stand drinking it all the time. when we go out to restruants not sure what I should oder even know your not post to drink with meals that is another problem I have... I have lots of problems.

What about non carbonated alcoholic drinks, such as Amaretto Sours? I haven't been banded yet but I enjoy this drink once or twice a month. I'm also a Pepsi addict but am looking forward to kicking that habit.

Blessings, Michelle

do you think beer and sparkling wine (champagne) should be avoided for the same reasons of carbonated drinks? I think you should be able to drink reasonable amounts of both every once in while without compromising your goal. I think the secret has always been to eat and drink a little bit of everything in moderation. Which by the way is a lot more fun!

pliberati: The makers of the band even suggest that you don't drink any carbonated drinks. It can cause band erosion.

Of course, there's always someone that will break the rules to suit themselves. It's up to you if you want to run the risk. Also, remember, not all doctors know what they're talking about. Let one of them get sued over this issue and you'll hear a different story from the physicians.

Lolly,

Just curious...the band is on the outside of our stomach. How does drinking carbonated drinks erode the band?

Personally, I've taken this as an opportunity to give up on carbonated drinks and I used to buy a 12 pack of sugar free pop every week.

I don't drink soda. Soda is just plain bad for you as it leeches the calcium from your bones. I gave it up before surgery and it was so hard so I decided never to go back!

I don't drink soda anymore, a few months after being banded, I was out to dinner with my family; we were eating in a dimly lit restaurant, and halfway through the meal, I reached down to get a drink of my Water, and without realizing it, grabbed my fiance's diet coke and when I drank it it just tasted nasty. I guess after not drinking soda for a long time, you forget how it tastes, but to me it just tasted way too sweet and the carbonation made it bitter and it almost stings your mouth and throat. Anyway, a few minutes after doing that, my stomach started to hurt so. Buy anyway, that was the first, last, and probably only time I will drink soda with my lap band... Oh, and if you're wondering why I was drinking with my meals, I always get water when I go out just in case my food is hot and/or spicy, but this time it was because my food was spicy.

I haven't had soda since the surgery and I don't miss it. I will have a couple sips of champagne that I've let go flat at special occasions, but other than that no carbonation. My surgeon was very adamant about that and I found out why!
