I have my psych appt. this Friday. I already took a few tests and answered a questionnaire that the Dr's office mailed to me.

So what can I expect from the visit? I was told to plan on being in the office for 2 hours - :).

TIA,

Dawn

HI Dawn,

I was hit hard i think, she asked me a lot of personal ?'s. Mostly about my ex, which I didn't think were any of her business. Which I told her, was not the reason I was there to talk about him.She got angry when I said this. Thought it was to be about me and my weight problems. She is the one who makes the final decision if and when your ready for surgery. Hopefully others & you will have had better experience than I did. Good Luck!

I actually had 2 psych consults. After I did the first, which my insurance paid for, I found out this woman takes 3 weeks plus to get the report to the clinic. Since I'm really under a deadline here since I'm supposed to be travelling to Bulgaria in January, I made an appt with another psych and paid cash.

In both cases, there was this long form to fill out, asking the usual...do you ever feel like killing someone, etc. Of course, I answered 'no' even though that morning my 17 year old son came dangerously close.:wink2:

Then we 'chatted' for about an hour. Now, if they're as good as I am , they were able to discover quite a bit about me just by chatting. We talked about what I do for a living, about my kids and husband, about what I expected to get out of this surgery. Basically, all they're trying to ascertain is whether or not you are going to be able to handle the massive changes that come with losing your weight.

Both put me at ease right in the beginning by telling me they were not there to keep me from having surgery. They were there to make sure it was a positive experience.

No need to dread it.

My psych appointments went really well. The psych I saw is very easy to talk to. The first vist was mostly to get to know each other. She asked questions about why I wanted the LB and about the reasons I feel I am overweight and have never been able to keep weight off before.

The second visit we went more into my emotional eating problems, and what the problems stem from. I am going back about every 3 weeks until at least I have the procedure done, maybe longer. This is my own choosing.

It was very easy if you ask me. I hope to use these visits for my future with being banded.

It all depends on how in depth your Psychologist gets. Mine just asked me a few personal questions about my family and what lead me to choosing weightloss and then it was over. Not more than 20mins. But I guess that is unusual......

psych appointments were not required for me. I'm glad because I really don't think I need it. Throughout my life, if I need a psych for something I go talk to one.

At this point my head is on pretty straight and things are going well in that department.

I do understand why psych is included with lapband, but am thrilled it was not a requirement for me.

I had mine on Tuesday. Filled out the 9 page form that was mailed to me prior. Sat there and answered personal questions for over an hour. Then she made another appointment for me for tomorrow to fill out some questionnaire that she said may take 2 hours.

Of course being the trouble maker I am, I gave her way more information than she expected just to try and get a reaction from her :)

Hi, when i had my psych visit the time went by fast. It was like an hour and a half. I did mine back in June...I had to do the six months weight loss visits. I'll be done Oct 30 and can't wait to see how fast things move from there.

Thanks everyone for your feedback. DH & I are having the surgery together, so we have a built in support system. 78% divorce rate is HUGE! We too are on a 6 mos. diet. 3 more visits to go!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
