I am in deep depression. The first few days were fine...

But for the past two days I want this thing out of me. I know I sound crazy. But something tells me now its not for me.

I know this sounds crazy.

But is there anyone out there who has thougth this? :bolt:

I haven't gone through that, but for the first few weeks, I could feel the band in my chest, and it was kind of creepy, in a way. That feeling definitely has gone away, and other than feeling full quickly, I can't even tell it's there. Give it some time, and maybe you'll stop thinking about the band so much. Of course, you have to be mindful of what you're eating, but other than that, I'm not thinking about the band at all now. When did you have your surgery? I know its normal to have remorse over something so life changing. I did while I was in the hospital wondering if I made the right choice. I am 2 weeks out and 8pds lighter and relieved that I did do it. I still get anxiety over the fact that one day I will be thin. Which is very new to me, seeing that I have always been a big girl all her life struggling with her weight! But its too late to get it taken out, unless its for medical reasons or if you have the money to remove it. Just give it some time. If you are still depressed, I would see a counselor you may wanna have someone to talk to while you lose the weight. Its tough, but its worth it once the weight starts to come off and you begin to feel healthier. Also, just a shot in the dark, if you are an emotional eater, its tough, because you can no longer go to food for comfort. If that is the case, then perhaps friends, family, psychiatrist or something else to turn to when things are crappy! You will be fine, everyone feels remorse after any surgery..

First, how long have you been banded??? Give it some time, and you'll be so thankful for HAVING the band. It can be tough at times but its better than the alternative.

What your going through is totally normal and very common. My doctor told me to expect it. You get this band, this thing you've been waiting for, for a loooooong time. You get it, and all of a sudden you feel crappy. You have air inside you from surgery, pressure in your chest, your stomach is swollen & sore from surgery, this band thing is squeezing your stomach like a tight pair of shoes on your feet. Then suddenly reality hits you, what a major life changing event it is, and that there is really some dramatic changes that lie ahead. It's almost like a panic attack or anxiety. And not to scare you, but it is frustrating the entire first month. You're drinking liquids, eating mushy runny foods, and your HUNGRY! Keep in mind that the first month, a lot of people do not lose, and they may GAIN! Which logically makes sense. Your band IS NOT FILLED! It's there, but doing pretty much nothing. That is where people really panick. They expect the pounds to be just flying off right away, but they forget that their band is not filled, so their hunger pretty much remains the same. Then we sit here asking ouselves, "Why am I so hungry? I have this band and it's not working" Take in a big breath, relax and give yourself time. Go shopping, watch a movie, do something you enjoy. I hate to say it, but maybe grab some "comfort food". Do whatever you need to this month to make yourself comofortable, and adjust to the challenge and adventure that lies ahead. Your in for the most rewarding adventure of your life in the next year! Don't throw it away!

I know so many bandsters that have these same feelings after surgery. My daughter was banded Sept 16th and she happy for a few days post-surgery...then weepy and depressed. I felt much the same way also....we have to learn a whole new way of living. It takes time to adjust. Its been over a year for me now, and sure, there are times that I wish I could have big meal. But 98 percent of the time, I have no regrets. I understand how you feel...I've been there. It gets better.

Hang in there! I know how you feel. During the first week after surgery, I had feelings that I had made a big mistake. Looking back, I know it was because I was experiencing a lot of hunger, and I was just upset that I had two more weeks of liquids. I feel much better now, I'm in week 3, and I have just started on some soft food. I know now that the band was the best thing I could do for myself. So, just hang tough, and you will get thru this and things will be much better for you.

I think I really do understand how you feel. I was really really believing that I made the wrong decision getting banded. I thought I wanted the band so bad and I did everything perfect to get it, then after I got it, I was in pain and confused. Discouraged and I experienced something that I realized I had not felt in so long I couldn't remember. HUNGER. I have been overweight and overeating for so long that I couldn't even remember what being hungey actually felt like. I have spent the last 20 years just eating and eating and eating, eating because its morning, night, afternoon, because I'm happy, sad, or because I passed someplace that I just have to stop in and get something. I used to eat a meal while I was cooking a meal and convince myself that I was still hungry...Once I got the lap band, I was experiencing a lot of different emothins and my natural reaction to emotion is to EAT. Except, I couldn't and still can't eat the terrible way I have been eating for so long. I actually got HUNGRY. I was so scared and nervous and depressed and just a whole host of other things...But I have been coming to LBT everyday and reading about the experience of others and getting encouragement and tips and I realize that I am actually Happy and pleased that I do feel hungry, its a sign that I am not overeating anymore(being hungry feels so much better than that, I am so stuffed I want to throw up or die right now feeling) I can no longer stuff everything down my throught and then feel terrible about myself because I did that. I have not had a fill yet and I have only lost 26 lbs so far, but I feel great! I feel like I can do anything. I feel like if I stick with this lap band and use it as the tool it is meant to be I will finally be FREE! Hang in there, I really believe you CAN do it! :bolt::thumbup::tt1:

Reading your post made me want to just cry. I wanted my band out too!! I kept thinking, this thing is permanently in me!!! I'm so crazy for having done this. I travel 1 1/2 hours each way to the doctor- I'm thinking to myself- that was a stupid decision too!!

I spent all my time on this website. I kept reading all of the positive results that others have experienced. So I would tell myself, this too shall pass. I won't regret it like the others on the website.

Well, it's been 4 weeks since my surgery. I've lost a total of 23 lbs (including the pre-op liquid diet). I can eat ANYTHING as long as I chew it well. I'm full with smaller portions. Everyone keeps complimenting me about looking better and I'm so glad that I did this!!! I really feel normal. I should be eating healthier but I'm not and I'm still losing weight! I feel like there's light at the end of the tunnel for me and my weight issues. I don't regret anymore. You'll get there. Focus on the positive and it'll happen.

Don't give up so soon, I too felt depressed about a week post op and I was crying for no reason at all. It was probably related to the huge change I was experiencing and what was to come, trust me when you can eat some real food and not all the liquids you will feel better. It is so cool to eat and get full so fast and I am not even filled yet, you will see just hang in there and give it a chance.

you are mourning the lost of a good friend. food. I also went through periods of mourning, but with time you will feel better.

when I awoke from my surgery, my mind was racing. I was thinking about what could happen, getting food stuck, slipped band, want if I lost my job and no longer had insurance. its normal.

If your depression continues, talk with your Dr.

I think it's normal to feel this way after any surgery. Your body has been through a lot!! I think everyone at some point after this surgery - usually soon after- ask themselves "What have I done?" I know I did. At this point I am more worried about never being a normal human being again that can go to a restaurant or sit down with my family and eat normal food. I have visions of eating the food I saw when my mom was in a nursing home and some people had totally ground up food - looked and smelled terrible. I have to get past those images. So hang in there. Give your body time to heal. Give yourself a year. If you still feel the same way then you can discuss removal with your doctor. But I don't think it will take that long for you to know you did the right thing.

I think it is normal for us to self doubt the decision to have this surgery done. I think we all, not only mourn the food, but the comfort that we got from the food. Our bodies have gone through some major trauma. I have started journaling my feelings. It doesn't matter if it is about food, or about some situation at home that I would normally use food to comfort myself from. I hope that in time, you will no longer regret your decision. I hope that we all are able to do well with this tool and benefit from it's usefulness.

Do you mind sharing how long you researched the lap band and how long you thought about it before you were banded?
