Strange?

Hello All!

I'm officially banded as of yesterday!!!! I can't believe it's done and now the real fun begins :) But, I didn't get an xray to make sure everything went ok....did any of you experience that?

Are you sure they didn't do it while you were still asleep? The reason I ask you is because I am a scrub

nurse, and when we do surgeries, we usually check the patient before we awake them, just in case we have to make any changes!

An x-ray really isn't going to show anything, but look at the band for mere curiousity. It's there. No use in exposing yourself to additional radiation. Unless there is a reason for an x-ray, a physician isn't going to do that routinely.

Great job!! Well, I think I'm doing fine but then I pick up the pace a bit and then it hits me that I have some not so pleasant pain coming from my abdomen. It's like I'm trying to do everything I did before yesterday and realizing that I really can't yet. I have a little gas pain but nothing major...thank goodness!!

Oops! what I meant by XRAY was a Flouroscopy. I know several people who had the band done all by different surgeons and they all had it done.

Good to hear that! Just keep your liquids coming and move around when you can. But also rest as needed. I am excited for all us newbies in our new journey! Slimmer here we come! YEAH!!!

Some patients have fluorscopy done the day after surgery and when they get thier fills. My doctor does not do that. For all the newbies welcome aboard lapband journey!! Just remember not to overdo the first few days after surgery and walk....walk...walk!!! That will relieve the gas pains. Also make sure you drink your water!!! I also use GasX strips when the gas was unbearable. Another trick that a friend who had the surgery told me was when and if you get nausea sniff on some peppermint tea....it really works!!!

GOOD LUCK EVERYONE!!!

I got banded 8/18/08 and had no kind of xrays or anything but when I called to make my post op appt they told me they would have me go to hospital and get the upper GI to make sure band was in place. I was told they quit doing it after surgery because so many people were getting sick from the drink you have to drink. I go in on 9/25/08 to make sure everything is ok. Hope this helps and Good Luck

I had a "thin swallow" test before I was released from the hospital to make sure I wasn't aspirating etc. My doc does that with ALL his patients, regardless of the surgery (bypass or band) and whether or not they "think" they are fine (i had finished 36 ounces of water before my test)

I was banded this Monday @ 8 am and was not allowed to drink anything until after 3pm the next day. Let me tell u that sucked !!!! But I was told it was cuz I had to wait for a fluoroscopic swallow test and get the ok from my Doc. I was not a happy camper. The stuff the make u drink is horrible. But now that I can drink I'm having a hard time getting my fluids in. Go figure lol! Hope all is going well for u.:)
