Hello Smashing Pumpkins,

I was banded on friday Oct. 3rd. Everything went well. The first day

is a little rough but it gets better from there. The worst is the gas

pains in the shoulders. The insisions them self do not hurt. My stomach

feels like i did a bunch of situps. We can do this. :) we can ALL do

this. :lol:Thanks for all the support.

The heating pad works well for the chest pains caused by gas, I have fallen asleep several times hugging it to my chest.

Gas is finally starting to move a bit today, and I feel a lot better. Still get tired often but I'm sure that will get better.

I managed to eat a little over 1/4 a cup of WW Smooth & Creamy White Chocolate Cheesecake (I think it's yogurt) it took me almost 40 min to eat it but boy was it good.

im patiently waiting on pins & needles i may add if im good to go for Wednesday..:)

last minute insurance decides they want more info on weight history blah blah blah

so im praying this past 5 day liquid diet was not in vain

i should have an answer by today  pray for me!

woo hoo!! one more day for me! 10-7!

i'm thinking about all 10-6 smashing pumpkins!

hope everyone so far is having a good recovery!!

Hello my name is Janet,

I am going for surgery Oct 14th Maples Surgical clinic. I am on Optifast for 3 wks before my surgery. Going okay so far. Wish you all good luck in your surgery and wt loss.

:)

It's getting closer!

I spoke to the admitting people at the hospital today and got all set there. Another nurse called for my health history. My last pre-op meeting with the surgeon is tomorrow morning at 9:00am.

I am scheduled to be at the hospital at 7:15am on Thursday.

Wow. I'm nervous. Ready, but nervous.

Good luck to all the bandsters this week. You will all do great!

It's great to hear from the newly banded that the pain is tolerable. I have a decent pain threshold but the whole getting out of bed thing makes me nervous.

Karen. Good Luck. You will be fine. My surgery date was Oct. 3. I was nervous until I got there and then I felt fine. The nursing staff and all the people involved were so nice. I am in Austin, Texas and had surgery at Seton Hospital. I couldn't have asked for anything to have been better. One of the nurses called today to make sure I was doing ok. Just think of it as a "procedure", not surgery. We will all be thinking of you and all the Smashing Pumpkins.

Thanks LoneStarLoser. I haven't had the best of experiences with anesthesia - I think that has me the most nervous.

What supplies did you lay in at home before you went? I have plenty of broth, Jello and crystal light. No one has said anything about Protein powder, but it sounds like I should get some of that - and Tylenol.

Has anyone tried that Special K protein Water?

I haven't. I have read about people having gas really bad after the surgery so they recommend the Gas-X strips that melt in your mouth. FYI

Praying for you!!!

Hello All, so glad to read these post from those of you who banded last week and before. It's great to hear of your 'healing' stories and especially for your experience & tid-bits.

I arrived in Detroit this afternoon and am counting the hours til I arrive at the hospital tomorrow morning for 8:30am 'procedure' :crying:.

Ok, I thought I'd have so much to say, but I don't. Just reading and ready.

Got my liquid tylenol, gas x strips, plenty to read and DH standing by patiently. I will have one overnight in hospital and have reserved my hotel for an extra night after that. We won't drive home until Thursday - thought I could use the extra day of rest. Glad to be off work for 2 weeks. I'm sitting here tonight just thinking - the date is here... can't believe it - but oh so very glad!

I'll be thinking of everyone!!

Best of Health to You!

I heard about having gas too, so I bought the Gas-X strips. I also got some liquid Tylenol. I did not really want much broth or jello after surgery. I just made sure I drank plenty of water. And it is not easy drinking alot of water after surgery. To make sure I was getting my protien, I mixed New Whey liquid protein or any liquid protein. It flavors the water a little and not so boring. I tried the chicken broth and it was bland. So I boiled a chicken with onion, celery, carrots and just drank the broth. I added noodles for my husband and that was his dinner.

I wasn't bother with bad gas until today, 4 days out. And I thought I was going to die. But the Gas-X strips work fast.

Your mouth will be really dry after surgery. And the pain medicine made my mouth dry. So make sure you have some chap stick. That helped me.

For me, first thing in the mornings is hard to get anything down. But I read that some people experience a tightening early in the mornings. Also, it is easier to drink liquids that are warm or room temperature. Cold feels good in your mouth, but I read that cold restricts the stomach, where warm relaxes it and makes it easier for the liquids to pass thru the stomach.

If I think of anything else that I have experienced, I'll let you know.

OH. I got protein powder, but I will use that later when I actually go to the shakes next week. At first all you drink are clear liquids.

Good Luck,

Lone Star Loser
