How long after surgery do you get to drink water?

Do you have a catheter and when do they take it out?

You can drink right away.. yes, they do have one... but, they take it out a few hours after.

I didn't get to drink water for 24 hours. No cath....

No catheter for me. I was given ice chips in the recovery room and was released a few hours later to drink clear liquids.

I received one ounce of water every 20 minutes. no catheter.

They gave me ice chips until about 6:00 pm that night (surgery was at 9:00 am); water (sips) after that. No cath for me either.

No catheter, although I think I had one during the surgery but it was gone before I woke up. Ice chips as soon as I left the recovery room and was taken to my room. Clear liquids soon after.

No cath for me. Ice chips as soon as I asked for them in recovery. Water and apple juice when I was taken to step down recovery. I was at a surgical center, outpatient so I had surgery at 9 am and was headed home by 12 (by my choice)

Hi, After I got home, I couldn't urinate and needed a cath for two days until everything was working.

I didn't have a cath. I was given water as soon as I was awake basically. About four hours later I was brought jello, beef broth, and apple juice. I couldn't eat any of it though.

I had to do a barium swallow first to make sure everything was going through the band and then I was allowed to drink. There was no cath for me at all

Same here except I also got a popsicle and some puddng.....I only sipped a little broth and water....went home shortly after I went to the bathroom...I was home by the time the girls got home from school.

I got ice chips until I passed the test. (You drink this crappy stuff and they watch to make sure that it goes through the band)

After that it was Jello, crystal light and Water.

In recovery my mouth was so dry I could hardly talk. First they leg me have a mouth swab with a little water, then ice chips and by the time I got to my room they let me have sips of water. That evening at supper, I had broth and watered down apple juice.
