Just my Luck, Back to Mexico

Recommended Posts

I went for a fluoroscopy fill this morning. Dr. McKeen accessed my port, not a problem. Proceeded to remove the pervious fill...nada, a few drops. puts 2 cc's in pulls out 1. Drink some Barium, I'm wide open. Puts 2 cc's in, drink some barium, still wide open...Hey lets go for 4cc's...wide open.

Time for Contrast, you could see it going up even pass the sleeve (the hole that was fixed a month ago) then stop right before the band. So now I turn sideways and the x-ray machine goes in for a close-up starting at my port. Add more contrast, follow up the tubing.

Big leak at the top of the sleeve, shooting out like your thumb on a hose.

They took lots of pictures/films. I just can't believe it!!

I walk out of the hospital and call Dr. Sanchez practically crying. He wants me back to Mx ASAP. I said I'm broke, and what are we going to do?

Re-place the tubing.

But what if the connection to the band starts leaking?

Re-place the band, and the manufacture has to pay for everything, they'll even reimburse my flight.

I'm so upset, I went out and had a chicken burrito and ate the whole thing.

food got me into this mess.

I know I'll be calling Dr. Sanchez back within a few days cause I have more questions. At this point I just want a new band even tho my current band looks great....Freakin tube leaks

I might fly out on April 1st, I hate these 5 hour flights..

Thanks for letting me vent, I'll keep you posted.

Oh, Vera, I am so sorry! I would demand a new band too. You can't keep going through this - financially, physically, or emotionally. Hang in there and get it fixed right. (((Hugs)))

What a PAIN, Vera!! I'm so sorry you're having to go through this. I'm looking forward to the day when you can post that all these issues are behind you and I know you are too. Yep, I'd want a whole new band too, if they have to go in anyway. Absolutely!

Sorry, Vera. Things aren't fair. ;)

(((hugs))) Vera, one thing that i rememer about your last surgery was that you had a strange feeling they should/would replace your entire band... funny how our intuition works. If only they wouldve done it!

God Bless you girl... were here for you!

I'm with Paula that the doc should have stuck with your intuition. Looking back at all my problems, I'd take on 10 more ports to save you from all your heartache. I'm sorry, buddy. Wish I could go with you.

Awww Vera, I wish I wasn't leaving town then. I would go with you to lend moral support. This really sucks bigtime.

Ever thought of getting the Lapband instead of having a midband put back in? Just curious?

Thanks for all the Hugs, This is the best support group ever.

Well, I just talked to alma, Dr. Sanchez personal coordinator/admin. Asked her if they have had patients with replacement tubing's before? Yes, a few and they have been very successful.

Why can't we just replace the band? He won't be able to decide to go that route until he gets in there and can see exactly what shape your stomach is in. There have been cases where he could replace a band same day as he's removing the old one but most times, he waits 3 months before fitting a new one on. It all depends on how good you stomach tissue/wall is in.

Now of course I want a new 9.75 Inamed band, and will demand it. I'll be calling him on Monday due to this being religion weekend, unless an emergency.

Meanwhile, I've got more research to do on those who have been rebanded.

I also know of those who have had their ports replaced with new tubing.

Know of anyone who had their band replaced???

Thanks for all of your concern, I wish you could all come with me.

Gosh Vera, I'm so sorry. I thought for sure that the problem with the leak in your tube had been repaired and you were on your way to having a working band again. Didn't you say that you were filled in Mexico after the tubing was repaired?

I hope Sanchez will put the band of your choice in. I'm with you, I would demand a new band. Quit messing with the one that leaks, even though your leak is not in the band itself, you can't keep going through all of this.

I know that you're very disappointed right now, but hang in there, I feel confident that everything will work out for you. Please take care and keep us updated on your trip back to Monterrey.

Tricia

I am telling you there is absolutely no way I would go to Mexico. I hate what is happening to Vera! Just hate all the time & $$ & emotion she has had to put up with. I know lots & lots of people have had great success w/Mexico. BUT the majority of problems we see on LBT envolve Mexico. So you put two & two together & what do you get=more possible problems statistically. I hope we can have a more finacial way in the US soon.

Vera(Ms.August)- you do what ever necessary to have the BEST care available & demand what you want no matter what. You will be in my prayers.

Leatha

Did they replace your band on the spot...I believe so. I also remember a post of yours, of someone who was told she needed to have her band replaced (due to slippage) but her doctor in Mx, didn't and she's find now. I think you made a comment to thinking you really didn't need to have your band replaced.

What do you think

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
