Hey everyone. What is the best tuna fish brand/ type you buy. I had a great experience with Starkist Albacore tuna-very tasty and "clean" looking and tasting (some Tuna is just too tuna-ish).

What are some great brands/types. I want to know because I have made Tuna a staple in my diet. Also, have you heard that regular mayonaise is better than the reduced fat in the Atkins diet? (This is just something I heard.)

Fresh tuna is the best. You can get frozen tuna steaks from Trader Joes (if you have a Trader Joes nearby) but I've also found it at more traditional grocery store. Canned tuna is never the same after :)

The starkist albacore is also my favorite. I truely enjoy the prepaked bags w/pepper & lemon & also herbs. they don't even have to be drained.

With Atkins that regular mayo is what you are to have. Any type of low-fat food will always have more carbs in it than a regular food. Atkins is all about low or no carbs. Do be careful with your calorie intake & the sugars on atkins. It can sometimes be more harmful than good. I did loose 35 pds on atkins but a year later on it came and more. I think a modefied version of atkins is better than a strick one beause of the calories. Good Luck

Check out the existing tuna Thread- it has awesome ideas.

I remember seeing that show, but I think you'd have to eat an extreme amount of it, then again, I'm not the best listener.

Hi public. Your article had me concerned, so I went and did a little research. This is what I found.

What's very disturbing is to read the signs of mercury poison. Hairloss, loss of concentration, depression... never thought about it, but maybe its the tuna???

doesnt tuna come in those air tight packages now, you dont have to buy it in a can anymore... Anyway I HATE tuna... I was on a pure tuna diet for 3months.. then I went on the 6 week body make over diet and ate tuna all the time.. ugh im so sick of it. Which is sad because I use to love tuna, tuna salad.. anything.... now the smell or just seeing the package makes me sick...

Well, I haven't had that much tuna lately and now I'm in the mood to have it, but should I. Probably moderation will be ok. Loss of concentration, oh yea, what's this thread about?

Trish, how about canned chicken? It can be used in basically the same recipes and has a different taste. Hopefully, no mercury poisoning either. Wow, it's always something, isn't it!

In my little research, I found that if we consume no more than two 6oz cans of tuna a week, we should be fine. Also, the 4 different sites I read said the same thing - that albacore tuna has the highest mercury level, and chunk light tuna having the lowest mercury levels. Has nothing to do with tuna being bagged or canned - has to do with the type of fish.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
