Tennessee is like a second home to me as my family is here. I'm from waaaay out west, but love it here. I came here especially to have my surgery at Vanderbilt and have thoroughly loved every minute here, with the exception of my knees giving me trouble. New knee in site, probably here I think. I'm in Harriman, right outside of Knoxville, and love Tennessee. Anyone else here banded by Dr. Melvin at Vanderbilt?

Hi Emmy,

I am from Chattanooga area and Dr. Ponce banded me...I also had a hiatal hernia repair....I am literally starving as he wants me to do clear liquids for a week, then full liquids for a week, then mushies x 1 wk, and then solids....I don't think I am going to be able to make it to the full liquid stage....Have you done well with your surgery? When were you banded? I just got banded Monday and I have high tolerance of pain but it seems I can't get comfortable trying to sleep at night....I am having some strong back pain but it isn't gas pains. ..... I am concerned though, since I have had surgery my Blood Pressure has been running 160/106 - 155/98,,,,I have never, ever had high blood pressure....I first thought it might be due to pain, but it isn't.....anytime I get up moving around it does nothing but go up....I can be sitting in the recliner and check it, and it is sky high...i called his office but I hate to say this but they are pathetic to return a phone call...I don't have a PCP...so I guess i am going to have to find one quickly....did you have any problems???? also, I have read some threads where some people in other states or other doctors would do Upper GI's on the patients after surgery to make sure the band is intact....Dr. Ponce did not do that on me...did he do it on you??? right after surgery? well take care...Kim

Hi Kim, Congrats on your surgery, How are you feeling? If you get gas take Gas-x and chew them until they arenothing before swallowing and move around as much as possible to get rid of the gas pains, usually most people have the gas trapped between their shoulders and back. Keep in touch.

I had my surgery in Chattanooga at Memorial by Dr Rose in 2003. Hope to hear back from you and your progress! Good luck!

I am looking for people in the Franklin, Thompson's Station, Spring Hill area. I am looking for a support group or a group of people interested in starting a peer support group in the area. I recently moved here and do not like having to go into the Nashville for meetings. Where I moved from had a peer group that was not with any one doctor or practice, it was open to anyone who had a band or was thinking about getting one. If anyone is out there who already meets or would like to get together, please let me know.
