Is anyone experiencing a Mental Load?

Hello,

I am exactly 2 weeks post op from sleeve surgery. I'm thankful that I've had a great recovery so far with almost no issues, except the mental ones. As the days go by, I'm beginning to feel myself feeling more and more paranoid and anxious. Paranoid that I did all this and NOTHING is going to happen, even though I'm already losing weight. As if it's too good to be true, and any day now, like always with diets I've done, the weight that I'm losing will just come flooding back. Paranoid that my recovery has been great...... suspiciously too great, and that I'll suddenly get some kind of infection and drop dead. That last one is a fear I've had because YEEEARS ago, a colleague of mine passed away after they had weight loss surgery recovery complications. However, even with these fears, I'm also very excited but also anxious. Time just isn't moving fast enough to see the results of all this. Waiting and not pushing to start something too soon to avoid complications. The same complications I'm fearful of. Am I making sense? My doctor said to limit my exercise to walking for now. But again, my paranoia is pushing my anxiety to exercise more now before it's too late and everything goes to S@%#. UUggHhh!!! It's a Mental Cycle. Please tell me I'm not the only person in this loop. At the end of the day, I take a few breaths and calm myself down. My family and friends help to keep my mind straight haha.

Its a thing and its a big deal. I didn't realise it would happen either. After a lifetime of failed diets behind me I didn't trust the process and at my first stall I panicked. My team reassured me, people on here did the same but the voice in my head said ' there you go, failed again. ' A great many stalls later, it finally clicked. Just do the process, don't sabotage yourself and you will be a winner.

I never set a target beyond the next 20 pounds so I wouldn't be too disappointed but the dream was to be in the one hundreds. I never truly believed I would get there. Amazingly to me I am still there.

Try and stick with it, find your way. If this doubter could, you surely can. This forum really helps.

Just slow down and take a breath. This is not a race it’s a journey. You don’t have to go pedal to the metal because you aren’t going to “get there” anytime soon. Even after you reach your goal you willl be in maintenance for life. Try to remember this is not a Diet, it’s a new lifestyle and that’s why it works. If your in the habit of walking for X amount of time and you dress out and go somewhere to do it as if you were going to the gym or whatever your preferred activity routine will be that’s the biggest part of the battle. Carving out the time and making it a habit to GET THERE, beyond that you can change up the activity and the intensity as much as you wish later but you have already put your health as a priority and made a habit of it. That’s really want this is all about. You’ve got this.

Thanks for asking. I'm doing much better. The "demons" have settled. Logic and reason have kicked in. I'm taking everyone's advice, trying harder to be kinder to myself, and doing my best to stick to a walking routine. I've been losing a consistent 2-3 pounds a week. It's slow, but it's happening, and that does make me happy. I told myself that regardless of whether I lose weight or not, I need to continue walking and staying on top of what I'm consuming (in terms of amount and stage ie. puree stage). Things WILL happen, I need to stick with it and not give in 😉

Hi, glad to hear it. It is very much a journey of discovery isn't it? I am 5 days post op and had horrific dumping syndrome tonight after racing ahead and eating eggs which weren't pureed. I feel like an idiot. I was so anxious I thought I might have burst my pouch. It's simple - just follow advice given & it will work. Don't think I'll ever eat eggs again...

Oh man I was very much in that same boat of eating foods outside the stage I was in. Figuring out what kinds of foods I can eat has gotten better though. My instagram and tiktok algorithms are now full if meal and food suggestions because im constantly looking for ideas. Its helpful when im trying to make a grocery list haha. Good luck with the eggs haha. It'll get better. I eat eggs in egg salad form...smashed up, a little seasoning and a VERY small amount of low fat mayo or cottage cheese just so it's not so dry. If it make a lot I just split the portion to eat later in the day.
