Anyone else do a VSG to ESG?

Recommended Posts

I’m torn between getting the ESG over the bypass. How did you decide which one to do?

I haven't had a revision to ESG but did have an original ESG (I now have a VSG). My personal opinon: I would think a bypass would have better longevity and outcome.

https://bmiclinic.com.au/endoscopic-sleeve-gastroplasty-faq/

ESG following gastric sleeve: Endoscopic revision of a gastric sleeve is possible, however the weight loss that results is only approximately 10% of the baseline weight. There are likely more effective options which you can talk through with your Bariatric Specialist.

Hey! I just had the ESG last month after having a VSG 11 years ago. I had gained back 45 of the 110 pounds I lost in the last few years. Im loving it so far! restored my sleeve to its original size and shortened it. Its very cost effective and only one or two days of any discomfort. I never took a pain pill. I am down 20 pounds, 15 since day of surgery 5 weeks ago. I highly recommend it! I was very strict with the rules though and just got on regular food yesterday. I am a Physician Assistant in Neurosurgery so I work in healthcare and I do not recommend the bypass. I see lots of patients with almost 100 percent regain of weight and a lot of vomiting. Not everyone, but its something to consider. The anemia is another concern with the bypass.

Cool! Congratulations on your weight loss! This is very good information. I appreciate your update and response. How much are you trying to lose?

For the past month I did a complete overhaul of my diet to do very low carb and low calorie diet, and high Protein. I’m so glad I was able to lose 15 lbs. I have 35 lbs to go. I might put the surgery on hold until I can get my diet under control.

I didn’t know that the bypass will cause anemia. Surprisingly, my GERD went away with the diet changes. 😃

I want to get back to my original goal weight which is 135. Im 5'4" tall. I stayed between 130 and 135 for almost 7 years. I slowly gained over the past 5 years til I reached 182. On surgery day, I weighed 177. My starting weight from the very beginning was 235 so we are close in stats! I have about 30 pounds to go. I just started on regular food because my doctor put me on clears for 10 days instead of 2 days and 2 weeks for each stage after that. I have a little trouble getting all the Water in but its helping me not to retain so much water. My body loves to store the water that I drink, if I dont get enough for it to decide I am not in a desert. lol. Good luck with whatever dicision you make. I am rooting for you to get to goal even if you dont have a revision. I am keeping my carbs low and Protein high. They say I dont have a set goal for carbs but I try to keep it under about 40.

Ohh wow! That’s awesome! You did really great on the sleeve. I might have gotten to 185, but I never made my goal weight.

We are so similar. My body loves to store Water too. I can never get enough water in. 4 bottles is a struggle let alone 5. I would love to get down to between 145 and 165. But, for now, I’m setting the bar low so I can meet small milestones. Lol

Sounds like you’re following the plan really well. I think that’s where I made my mistake. I’m going to continue eating right and watching the sneaky sugars.

If I do it, it’ll be At IBI healthcare or true you weight loss in GA. Who was your surgeon?

Hi, how was your hunger level compared to vsg? Does it reduce ghrelin?

I can’t believe it’s been over a year since I STILL HAVENT made a decision. I have the money to do the surgery, but now I have added 2 additional surgery options. Now, I can’t decide between

1. Bypass
2. ESG
3. GSRE - gastric sleeve revision surgery
4. SASI - single anstanomis ilietal surgery. I know I’m spelling it wrong. This one is supposed to make you lose 60+ lbs and is one stitch.

I’m in the same boat and want to know the same thing. I’ve had a consultation for ESG and resleeve. Is SASI a resleeve? It’s been over a year and I’m not sure what the best option is. I had an endoscopy and my pouch did stretch.

No, the SASI slims the excess of the stomach from the sleeve and meets the upper and lower intestines. I was quoted $18,900 for that at IBI Healthcare in Buckhead in Atlanta. The bypass is $14k. I think I’m going to go with the Bypass. My goal is to really stop eating bread and cheese. I am almost a vegan as I’ve cut out every meat, and all sugars. I want this tool to trigger dumping so I can really stop. My weight gain recently is due to starch and stress. And, I also stopped going to my therapist and my nutritionist. I’m restarting my therapy right now. Unfortunately, I’m back at my starting weight from back in 2017 which is 240. So, I’m a bit defeated by the recent weight gain. I’m hoping to start again with the process this week or next week.

Since my goal is to lose 90 lbs, I don’t think the ESG would work for me.

I feel you. I’m scared to do the bypass. I was doing really well and also working with a therapist. Then things got really stressful for me and I fell into depression. I only gave 40 lbs to lose but I got injured almost a year ago and I’m still not able to exercise so I just keep gaining. I’m vegan now but u eat way too many starches.

I wonder if esg cuts hunger. That’s what I want.

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
