May Surgeries - check in!

  • Popular Post

Looking for other May 2021 folks to share the journey with! I'm scheduled for May 5th and start my liquid diet in just a few days. Anyone else on/around the same time? What kind of pre-op diet do you have? I admit I'm super nervous about how I'm going to manage the next couple of weeks and keep up my energy at work.

Hello! May 20th here! Nervous, excited, unsure of what is truely around the next turn as the page is turned. But mostly EXCITED to be taking control of MY body!

Welcome! Glad you're here to share this journey with all of us. I am also nervous, excited and unsure, AND I'm ready to take responsibility for my body and my eating.

I’m 5/15 ... and super nervous

Hang in there. Have you started your pre-op diet yet?

Thanks for the encouragement...Yes we can do this!
My surgeon will be Dr. Minkin in St. Louis. He’s such an upbeat person and I’ve had good experiences with him doing several colonoscopies over the years for me that I’m not worried about him doing this.
I’m mostly worried about disconnecting from my comfort foods, I definitely will need to find some activity to take its place.

I was supposed to have surgery in June and got a call today about a cancellation so now it’s May 19th!! I attended the final class today and have my pre op doctors appointment on the 13th. I also found out that I get to start my liquid 3 week diet tomorrow-surprise. I thought I’d have more time to prepare but excited to just get it going! I’m having gastric bypass due to severe GERD as well.

YAY, that's my day too!!!!!!!

May 12th
5/12. Is mine
5/12 I guess I’m so nervous keep putting the wrong date final it is May 12th

Hi all: first post. I have a surgery date on May 17th. I start my liver shrinking diet on May 3rd. Getting nervous, but also excited to start my life. I’m 5’7 my HW: 309, CW: 275, GW: 160 and I’m a 35 year old female!

today is day one of the liver shrink for me... The constant thought I keep having is “I’ve done so well today, what is my food reward going to be?” no more food rewards for a while ?

I am day 11 of pre-op liquid diet, and I have the same thoughts! My husband is taking next week off to take care of me after my surgery on Monday. He called and said, “Today is my Friday, and then I get 12 days with you!” My first response was, “Yay—let’s go out to dinner and celebrate!” Then I was like... 0h, I forgot broth for dinner! ? I think it will take a awhile for us to stop thinking of food as a reward. Thank you for sharing!
I’m going in for EGD tomorrow. Any thoughts or advice on that? ?

Boy, I'm right there with you. Finding a healthy substitute for food is the biggest challenge of all. I think of the surgery as a tool, but getting my head straight with food is really the journey. A friend who had surgery some years ago recommended a book that I am currently reading. It's called The Emotional First+Aid Kit (a practical guide to life after bariatric surgery) by Cynthia Alexander, PsyD. It has some useful guidance.
