Fiber goals

Hey y’all. 5 weeks post op tomorrow and had my 1 month follow up Monday, they were really happy with my progress. During the appointment the doctor told me she wants me to try to hit 80 grams protein & 30 grams fiber a day.

I’m able to get in the 60-80 gram range for protein if I drink one of my shakes a day, but the fiber goal feels really high! Even the Benefiber supplements i bought are >10 grams a day. Not sure how I can get there.

Any tips? Suggestions?

That’s interesting. I was never given a fiber goal. Seems like that would be pretty here at 5 weeks post op. Are you even eating fresh vegetables and fruits yet? I wasn’t until 6 weeks PO then really small portions initially. A double dose of Sugar free Metamucil is 6 g. I drink that every day because it helps keep things moving. Might help with your fiber intake.

I never had a fiber goal. I am getting (9 months post) between 15-20g/day. I usually have a cup of spinach a day and maybe 1/3 cup of veggies at dinner. I also eat carbs with fiber and beans a few times a week but it's still that low. I probably had 5-10g/day for the first few months. I only took milk of magnesium a few times the first couple of weeks. That seems like it would be hard to get that much in.
