Next week is the 4th of July and I’ve been invited to several barbecues. I’m on the soft food phase (only one month since gastric sleeve) can I eat any barbecue food? How about a hamburger (without the bun)? Grilled chicken? Potato salad? I do know that I can’t have hot dogs (don’t like anyway), sausage or corn. Since I can’t eat bread yet can I eat cold cuts on a wrap? I appreciate any and all knowledge regarding this. Thanks in advance.

Soft food-wise... I'd recommend the grilled chicken. Or perhaps bringing food you know you'll be able to tolerate. When I was on soft food, grilled chicken didn't go down well for me, nor did burgers.

Hi there!!!

You may want to take a dish along to the bbq for everyone to share. chicken salad, tuna salad, etc. are safe bets that everyone loves.

By sharing your own on plan foods (and eating that first) you may be less tempted to rush past your current food stage. There are plenty of temptations at bbqs and its easy to forget rules when your having fun.

Pinterest has a wealth of info/recipes on what you might want. Run a search and check it out !

I don't feel grilled chicken is soft food at all! I still sometimes have trouble chewing grilled chicken and eating it slowly enough. Don't risk it! What about deviled eggs? Make some to take with you and share with your friends and family.

A little Tilapia gently baked with Lemon Pepper or Mrs Dash, take things light and Easy, July 2020 will be much different for you, this year small amounts and tastes.

I went to a BBQ this weekend (tail end of my pureed/soft foods stage). I had shrimp cocktail for "lunch" and burger with no bun for "late lunch/early dinner" - chew chew chew! I also picked out and ate the cheese that was in one of the Italian Pasta salads. Avoid chicken and any of the noodles and potatoes. Bringing a dish to pass that you know you can eat is a great idea! Maybe some kind of bean or chicken dip.

At one month out grill chicken and hamburger was not allowed. Even now at 2 months chicken is to dense on my stomach and always feel stuck. Deviled eggs is a good option.

At that stage of starting to eat solids, I would stick to cold cuts and cheese. I know it sounds boring for a BBQ, but the last thing you want is to suffer the whole time with a bariatric episode. I wish you luck and tons of fun!

Oh and I forgot to say, if you plan on trying new foods (since surgery). Eat just a bite and wait a bit, to see how you react before filling your pouch. You will know if it sits well, and safe to eat more. Even at 6 months out, I sometimes have bad reactions to new foods. And there's no rime or reason for it. I use to be able to eat anything. That's not so much the case anymore. :(

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
