Did anyone develop gastroparesis post-op? If so, weave me your tale of symptoms and diagnosis. I am certain my ulcer has healed but I have been severely nauseous since 12/12. I dry-heave constantly. Sometimes it is about 1/2 hour to an hour after I eat... sometimes at random times. Mostly after I eat, and I am on full liquids (with occasional puree) so nothing insane is being digested. Sometimes even water does it to me. I am very careful about portions and eating slowly and properly. I read that the vagus nerve can be damaged post-op and gastroparesis can develop at any time. I am worried this is the case. I don't believe I have a stricture because no food ever comes back up and this happens only about 70% of the time after I eat (and it takes about an hour to set in)... the rest of the time it is random. This is just me spit-balling. I have an appointment on the 7th to go over all of this. But I am really nauseous virtually all day! It's borderline debilitating. The medicine for gastroparesis nausea, Compazine, is the only nausea med that remotely helps. Reglan for motility, also used for GP, has also helped, but knocks me out. lol.

Gastroparesis doesn't "just happen". It's usually an underlying condition that occurs due to external factors such as diabetes and such. The chances that your surgeon accidentally jacked with your vagus nerve are pretty small. They know the consequences of that and don't want that kind of prob.

But saying that, I'm sorry you are nauseated after eating. It's quite likely you have esophagitis in addition to the ulcer and it makes food sit heavy then start the whole nausea dialogue. But I don't play a doc on the internet--so don't know. But if it were me, I'd call my doc.

I can tell you, right now I have a raging case of esophagitis and food is painful to swallow and feels like it's trying to climb its way out of my esophagus and piehole. But I'm too mean to let that **** take hold. So I deny its existence and just keep making myself eat.

Sorry you're having continued issues. I SWEAR in 6 months you will look back and won't remember the huge trials you've had!!!

It doesn't hurt to swallow and I don't have any pain or anything. Just massive nausea after I eat after a while. Like badddd. Today I ONLY could get down 1tbsp of cream cheese and 2 tbsp of ricotta (and got sick after both of those) plus had 2 other bouts of nausea. I am eating like 200-300 calories a day and hardly any protein at this point! The other day I had only 10g! The doctor's office knows about all this but I'm still waiting for that appointment. In the meantime I am probably 100% malnourished but I feel so sick I can't stomach anything. It's turning into a real fear of food because I am averse to the nausea.

I am in constantttt communication with the doctor's office and they're just like I dunno. Literally have been zero help thus far. The only one who has helped is my surgeon and he is behind a wall of nurses and I have to wait until the 7th. None of them believed me when I complained prior to my ulcer diagnosis and they all thought I was overreacting to postop pain. But my surgeon believed me. Thank God.

You can get teal nauseous if you are dehydrated. You might just need an iv bag of fluids and then the nausea might go away. I would seriously consider the ER if your Dr office wont get you in.

I figure I'm cursed. 13% of gastroparesis cases occur due to GI surgery. 5-15% of gastric bypass patients get ulcers. So I'm right in that pool of unlucky bastards. Anyways, I'll try not to speculate any further until the 7th when all my greatest fears are realized. LOL.

everything else makes me sick too. I have nondairy protein shakes and have stopped even having those. I cant have my ham salad anymore or green beans. ;( I have kept a 3 day log for my surgeon so he can see the frequency. and I also averaged my calories and protein over the last 6 days. at 245 calories average and 34g of protein. just waiting for the 7th.

already went to the er about this about 2 weeks ago. no dehydration. just mystery nausea and they gave me nausea meds and did a CT to make sure I didnt have a bowel obstruction.

It's been 17 days since the sickness began. I fear the nausea knows no end. I've managed to scrape up one egg to fill my belly this day. It almost didn't keep down, but I force it now. 9 days remain until the surgeon comes around. I've kept this journal so that he may see my ills. Concern strikes me as my average intake drops well below 300 a day, and my protein halves. I feel tired, weak. But I must persevere, my love. I can't wait to hold you in my arms again, along with a 6oz filet mignon and sauteed mushrooms.
