Hello everyone! I finally got a date - September 6, 2018! I will be having multiple surgeries along with my vertical sleeve gastrectomy. I will elaborate on the other things I will have done in a separate thread - I want to keep this for the sleeve part only. I've been in the conversation since March 2018 and am on my second surgeon, whom I've been seeing since June 29, 2018. I've lost (as of Aug. 2, 2018) 28 pounds so far. I am officially on the four-week pre-op diet. The surgeon is concerned with my liver size. I had to have a CT scan yesterday to specifically look at the liver and the blood flow through it. He thinks I have what is called Portal Hypertension. The CT scan should give him the answers he is looking for. He did say that if it turns out that I have portal hypertension, he may not be able to perform the surgery due to higher risks of bleeding. Fingers crossed!

The surgeon also found during the upper endoscopy that I have an hiatal hernia. He said he would repair this also when performing the VSG.

My pre-op diet consists of greater than 64oz of water a day, a protein shake and veggies/fruit for breakfast & lunch, a snack (cottage cheese, greek yogurt, etc.) and veggies/fruit, and 3oz of lean meat and veggies for dinner. I'm limited to strictly 800 calories or less per day while getting greater than 90g protein. I've been doing this diet for a bit now and I am averaging 795 calories, 95g protein, and greater than 90oz of water each day. So good, so far. Right now, I'm eating 1/4 cup of ricotta cheese, 1/2 cup of mini peppers, and 1/2 cup of sugar snap peas. I added some Cholula green pepper sauce and some Cholula chili garlic sauce to the ricotta cheese - I'm not used to the flavor and texture yet, so this is helping me eat it. (I have to do the same with cottage cheese, that or add some salsa)

Good luck to everyone!

So, I got a call from the surgeon yesterday and he said the CT scan of my liver did not show any abnormalities! That is awesome news! I just need to make sure the pre-op diet is adhered to so I shrink

@macadamia you got this! I am on my liquid diet for 1 week now and 1 more to go. Has anyone experienced leg cramps? Some days it is my whole body. So ready for the 12th.

Hello fellow September sleevers! ?

I have a surgery date of September 27th, and begin my pre-op diet tomorrow. Anyone else starting their Pre-op diet?
I’m wrapping up Day 2 of 7 of my pre-op [clear] liquid diet. Are you able to have protein shakes? I feel like that’d make a world of difference for me

Howdy all!

I’m Jenn and I’m getting the gastric sleeve on Sept 11. This is a revision as I had a completely unsuccessful lap band 9 years ago.

I paid out of pocket for the lap band but the government is paying this time. I’ve been on a waiting list for over 2 years.

I’m trying to keep my excitement to a minimum as my surgery was scheduled for August but was canceled due to “technical difficulties” in the OR. They called with my surgery time and the cancellation of that surgery within 2 hours.

This was a huge letdown and I fell into a dark depression while waiting for a new surgery date.

I’m 42 and have been struggling with my weight since I was 12. That’s 30 years of tormenting myself!! I’m ready for this to work. I’m also ready to work to get it.

Good luck to my fellow September 2018 Sleevers!

I'm September 11. Good luck to you too! Hope all goes smooth sailing this time for you!

So how are all of you Sept 5 people doing?
Im doing pretty good! Got home a few hours ago. Still have the gas pain and incisions are tender. I’m afraid to drink anything bc I’m paranoid about drinking too much or not sipping correctly.

How long before surgery do you start liquid diet?
My surgery date is 9/24 but I have my pre-op appointment on 9/19. I have yet to start my liquid diet, they haven't told me to start it.

Not every surgeon requires a pre-op diet. To be sure, I would suggest you reach out to their office and ask.
