*** September 2018 Sleevers ***

  • Popular Post

Hello everyone! I finally got a date - September 6, 2018! I will be having multiple surgeries along with my vertical sleeve gastrectomy. I will elaborate on the other things I will have done in a separate thread - I want to keep this for the sleeve part only. I've been in the conversation since March 2018 and am on my second surgeon, whom I've been seeing since June 29, 2018. I've lost (as of Aug. 2, 2018) 28 pounds so far. I am officially on the four-week pre-op diet. The surgeon is concerned with my liver size. I had to have a CT scan yesterday to specifically look at the liver and the blood flow through it. He thinks I have what is called Portal Hypertension. The CT scan should give him the answers he is looking for. He did say that if it turns out that I have portal hypertension, he may not be able to perform the surgery due to higher risks of bleeding. Fingers crossed!

The surgeon also found during the upper endoscopy that I have an hiatal hernia. He said he would repair this also when performing the VSG.

My pre-op diet consists of greater than 64oz of water a day, a protein shake and veggies/fruit for breakfast & lunch, a snack (cottage cheese, greek yogurt, etc.) and veggies/fruit, and 3oz of lean meat and veggies for dinner. I'm limited to strictly 800 calories or less per day while getting greater than 90g protein. I've been doing this diet for a bit now and I am averaging 795 calories, 95g protein, and greater than 90oz of water each day. So good, so far. Right now, I'm eating 1/4 cup of ricotta cheese, 1/2 cup of mini peppers, and 1/2 cup of sugar snap peas. I added some Cholula green pepper sauce and some Cholula chili garlic sauce to the ricotta cheese - I'm not used to the flavor and texture yet, so this is helping me eat it. (I have to do the same with cottage cheese, that or add some salsa)

Good luck to everyone!

So, I got a call from the surgeon yesterday and he said the CT scan of my liver did not show any abnormalities! That is awesome news! I just need to make sure the pre-op diet is adhered to so I shrink

One week to go!! Count down. Hungry pains comes and goes but not when people are eating in front of me. About lost it when my husband made himself a BLT. LOL Plus able to do 64 oz of Water, which is a shocker. Putting in small glasses worked for me. Lost ten pounds on the liquid diet so far and keeping my head in the game.

Keep it up! And, as for the BLT, I bet it was the tomato smell. They get me every time.

Ah, my surgery is tomorrow at West LA Kaiser. I'm bummed I wasn't put on a liquid diet but doing so today and been extra careful.

Kinda freaking out that I didn't prepare all I need for the first stages and am missing things.

Anyone interested in a Discord group or just general chat instead of a FB group?

Hey @macadamia how was your surgery?? I had mine the 12th and am feeling great sending you well wishes and a speedy recovery

I had my surgery on the 12th. Spent one night at the hospital and was able to go home. For the most part I'm ok. Having trouble with getting enough liquids mainly cause I hate the sipping, lol. Overall I feel good. Walking as much as I can. Down 12 lbs since surgery!

@awils we are surgery twins I also had my sleeve on the 12th are you on full liquid diet I haven’t had any appetite at all but I have had two protein shakes starting Saturday and I have had a good time with getting in 64oz of water a day

One week until surgery and I’m getting nervous.

Doing shakes for the next four days, then clear liquids until surgery. Not hungry, but definitely want to eat when I’m bored or reading.

Hope everyone is doing well.

Surgery twin! I’m the 25th too! Only a 2 day clear liquid requirement for me. Trying to ease into it ahead of time so it’s not such a shock.

9/27 is my surgery date. I'm worried but not scared. I am more concerned about eating in the full liquid phase. Clear liquid i think will be fine, but the next step with soups and such is what worries me.

Anyone have any feed back on the items they offer for sale on this site??

I reached out to my surgeon. I will only be on liquid diet pre-op for 24 hrs. My surgery in 9/24 I have been looking forward to getting this surgery for a long time, now that it's soo close I am so emotional, I go from being excited, to getting nervous, scared. I cried myself to sleep the other night. Has anyone become so emotional close to their surgery day?

Completely normal! You’re contemplating a major life change, you’re entitled to be emotional, and you will be.

You and me are surgery buddies!

That's good to hear and it's going be a big change. Tomorrow I have my pre-op appointment, hopefully I get my time of surgery. Do you know what time your surgery will be?

My surgery is scheduled form11:30am (mountain time). I was originally at 3:30pm but got bumped up.

Hope everybody is doing well from surgery. I have my ups and down also but getting stronger every day. Stay strong!

Had mine on Tuesday and doing well. Traveling gas pains...shoulder, ribs and now boob!....but getting about ok. Can’t seem to track my liquids but just going by if the pee is pale yellow you’re getting enough liquid! Glad I took a week off work though!
