Third Fill

Recommended Posts

I got the fill yesterday, 1cc. I had restriction last night at supper. I made one of those SkilletSensation meals with roast beef, veggies and sauce and I could only eat about 1 1/4 cup then I got that stuffed feeling in my chest and slime in my mouth, but nothing came back up. LOL, I need to figure out how to stop before I get to that point!! I'm hoping this is real restriction and not just swelling from the fill. I am very concerned that I am already filled to 3cc's in a 4cc band and am only at the beginning of my journey. :nervous

This morning I had my usual amount of coffee at around 5:30, and at about 6:45 I had a cheese omlett. No problems. By 9:30 I was hungry again so I had a Carbwell Protein snack bar. lunch went down just fine (left overs from last night), although I feel really full. However, I know that I will probably feel hunger again around 3pm. Does anyone else have mid-morning and mid-afternoon Snacks? I can't seem to get through the day without them!

I have started to eat peanuts...i know they are good for Protein and energy and help me get through the rest of the day without bottoming out. besides, you can only have so many Protein Shakes, even though they are great for you and another way to get lots of energy!

Me, too!!! I hope we both find that sweet spot!

3pm rolled around and sure enough, my tummy started rumbling. I had 2 beef jerky's, but that wasn't very filling....

Ive been thinking alot about this.

I wasnt a BIG eater preband... I just ate ALL of the time. And for me, the hardest thing about this band is to get scheduled and eat 3 decent meals - not graze all day.

My sister is a B I G eater. She will have 3 plate fulls at one meal. I would have 1/2 of her one plate at mealtime, but graze like a damn cow while cleaning the kitchen (she and I totaling the same caloric intake). Ive often wondered if the band is as effective for people like me that would eat all of the time (pre-band) compared to the bandster that inhaled tons of food at every meal (like my sister). Wouldnt her tummy be MORE stretched out, causing the band to be more restricted on her?

For me I would just eat so often that my tummy didnt get stretched out and it just trained my body to be hungry all of the time, resulting in little restriction.

Does any of this make any sense to anyone else?

Makes sense to me! I am like your sister. I have always eaten huge meals, but usually only 3 per day, sometimes 2. I used to have only occassional Snacks, but now I seem to need them morning and afternoon. I was afraid my pouch would be very stretched out, but it wasn't.

I have read that grazers have to be a little more careful with their eating habits with the band. Apparently, eating a little nibble here and a little nibble there doesn't let your band do its thing. When you eat a full meal, it has an opportunity to let you feel restriction and stop eating.

Blossom I eat whenever I want..as a matter of fact Iam eating vegetable thins ( crackers ) as I type to you. and I am feeling restriction this just helps me to eat less at dinner time so I am notsitting with a pouch full of food after 6:00

Everyone is so different, you will find what works for you. I eat my 3 meals but I also snack becasue of my sdnacking my 3 meals are smaller. I like to keep my metabolism moving all day is why I snack..I must be doing something right 73.5 lbs in 9 months

As far as your fill..does your Dr. require liquids after a fill? mine has me do 3 days of liquids in case there is swellingfrom the fill. Again I'm sure you have heard that sometimes fills take there time to kick in. Did he use flouro and the barium? Were you able to see your restriction and how the barium flows through your band? DOn't fret about the 3'ccs in a 4 cc band at the start of your journey. I met a woman in my Dr.'s office who had her first fill of 2.4 in a 4cc' band. Maybe this one will be the sweet spot. I go for my 3rd fill Monday I may be at 3'ccs too after that!

Michelle,

You know, it never occurred to me that snacking might be a good thing, LOL!!! But it makes sense that it would keep your metabolism revved up and make you less hungry at meal times. I had read (I believe in the Inamed instructions) that you should only eat 3 meals a day with no in between eating, so I thought I was being very bad. I also just met someone else, who happens to be a medical professional, who says snacking keeps the metabolism going. Hmmm...Ok, so I will consider myself a good girl, LOL!!

I thought I would be required to do liquids after a fill, too. But with every fill I asked and was told to eat normally. As for flouro and barium, yes it was used, but I don't think they have it figured out yet, LOL!!! They used the barium BEFORE the fill, no barium during or after the fill. So yes, I could see the barium going through my band, but no, I didn't see any restriction. Remember, this is a REDNECK band, so everything will be done backwards, LOL!!!

Good luck with your fill on Monday!

Thanks I 'll keep eating the Zone bars.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
