Reflux

When I was sleeved on 8/10/17 my doctor repaired a hernia and told my husband that would fix my acid reflux. I am drinking a protein shake but feel a burning at the back of my throat like reflux. Has anyone else experience this?

I had a hernia that I was. I was not aware of prior to surgery. I have heard other people who had had hernia repair and still experience reflux for the first few weeks. On this forum, some people say they have had to be on an antiacid medication for a few weeks after surgery.

Are you taking any PPI's (e.g. Prilosec, Protonix,...) post-op? If not, you may want to talk to your surgeon about prescribing one.

My doctor gave me a prescription for Pepcid and I am taking it twice a day. I'm afraid something might be wrong.

I also had a hernia and I'm 4 months post op. I take Prilosec every day.

Pepcid is not a Proton Pump Inhibitor like Prilosec, Nexium, Prevacid, or Protonix. They work very well so if you're not getting relief with Pepcid you may want to switch to a PPI.

Which one do you take, how many a day and around what time? I was taking nexium but not getting any better. She was originally going to give me prilosec.

Hello!
My doctor prescribed Omeprazole which is a prescription strength Prilosec. I take it 2x a day starting the day I got home from the hospital. That was Aug. 16th. I havent had any problems with reflux! Well unless I over eat but there was pain or burning feelings. I tell you what though, I dont over eat anymore now that I know just how much food my little stomach can handle!
