One week post op plus best chocolate protein shake

Recommended Posts

I am one week post op and feeling great! Days 1 & 2 were hell but I was much better by day 3. I'm getting in all of my Water and Protein but still deal with that grumbling, clenching, rolling, hot contraction like pain from time to time. I've lost 30lbs in the past three weeks, 21 of which were pre op.

I wanted to share this Protein shake recipe with you bc to me it's better than a real chocolate shake. I use Bariatric Advantage chocolate (2 scoops), 4-5 pieces of ice, 1 cup of vanilla almond milk, and one capful of DaVinci Gourmet sugar-free caramel Syrup. I blend it in my magic bullet for about 30 seconds and voila!! Chocolate perfection!!! I can drink these forever and never get tired of them.

I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.

I have my surgery in 2 days and will definitely try this recipe out when I'm cleared to do so. What made day 1 and 2 so awful for you? I'm trying to know what to expect! Thanks.

I woke up from surgery with horrible pain behind my sternum...probably gas. Between gas pain and nausea with dry heaves, it was not pleasant. Walking helped some with the pain but while out walking, any smell at all made me dry heave. Once I got home to my own bed and got a decent night's sleep, I improved each day. Day three was a turn around from bad to good. Just breathe through the pain and walk. You'll do great!!! Bring a mouth spray with you to moisten your mouth just in case. Even the ice chips made me nauseous.

I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.

Did you get in all your Water and protein from the start? I was released from the hospital yesterday and could only drink 17 ounces of water throughout the day. I don't want to get discouraged too early, but... well, aim discouraged. Surgery was Friday.

I had the exact same pain! A stabbing ache in the left side of my chest. It was totally gas, and once I started burping [and burping, and burping...] it went away.

I also definitely didn't get in my water the day after my surgery -- not at ALL. But I managed it the day after that. So if you can't manage the first day, don't stress too much...

I couldn't get it all in until yesterday. I had to work up to it and it's still a struggle. I hear it gets easier so I'll keep positive and take it one day at a time. Hang in there! We're going through this together.

It was bearable with the Dilaudid and Toradol injections for pain. After the second day I didn't need pain meds or nausea meds.

I had a really hard time and got upset at first but tiny sips ALL day of the Protein Shake and each day I was able to handle a little more. The same with water. Literally all day little sips. Then as you can handle more you can have bigger gaps between and get to more normalcy.

Remember it's different for everyone. I didn't experience pain aside from minimal pulling at the incisions. I was very nauseated until I asked them to take me off of the pain meds the next morning. Coming off of the Dilautid helped the nausea a LOT.

Of course you will. So will I. We just had MAJOR surgery and it takes time for our body to heal. You'll be getting in all of your water very soon. Our normal will be a new normal, but, that's why we had this surgery in the first place. We didn't like the status quo in our lives. Hang in there. We're in this together and this is a wonderful place to come for wisdom and encouragement. I'm so glad I found it!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
