Slowing weight loss on purpose?

As we know, extreme calorie reduction diets result is slow metabolism. Has anyone considered actually trying to get more calories in during the weightloss phase to slow things down? Help let the body adjust a bit slower and avoiding extreme calorie reduction side effects such as hair loss and loose skin?

Any pros and cons?

  • What I've found with these surgeries is that after the initial rapid weight loss, the weight loss for most actually evens out to more 'average' rates of loss like with conventional diets. Mine wasn't

  • Protein goals- met and surpassed daily. Weight loss- on flipping track as well- 7 mos out, 15-20 lbs from goal Vitamins? You betcha hair loss? Like a MOFO Grateful I had too much to begin

  • This is a false statement. I ate protein up the wazoo (80 grams a day) and still lost hair. It's a combination of several things to do with the surgery, and almost impossible to prevent.

I was interested in this topic because I have been thinking about this over the last week or so. I am getting to a weight where Im comfortable and I average about 15 lbs a month. I would like to slow down to about 5 lbs a month now. Not sure how to do that. I haven't had a stall yet but I imagine its coming. Trust me I would embrace it and I wouldn't be mad at all!!!! I may have a 0-1lb weight loss right around my cycle but afterward I drop about 3-5 lbs. I was exercising 4-5 days a week but I have stopped that because I am losing inches like crazy and I look a lot smaller than I weigh. But it seems that you all are referring to upping calories for the sake of speeding up metabolism???

I don't think I will try to slow down my loss. I think it will all average out I just don't want to be as small as I thought I did. I want to be at a weight that is healthy for me and realistic to maintain.

I'm struggling with my weight loss. Just sent you a message.

My nut did not allow me to count calories, i only know it because i was tracking it in myfitnesspal.

Same here. We shouldn't count calories. I'm supposed to take in 100-120 g of protein daily (based on activity level) and match the water intake and take the supplements. Otherwise no special instructions.

Hello, I'm pre-op BUT I've had multiple spinal fusions and lost loads of hair with each one. My surgeon said it's from the trauma. So it's not one thing causing it but rather everything. The body drops the hair and focuses nutrients to healing and such. IMHO and experience I believe it to be true. I had no weight loss just extreme trauma due to the nature of my surgeries. It always grew back but oddly enough it grew back straight gray!! Just my two cents :)
