Chest X-rays are often done before someone is given anesthesia during surgery. They want to make sure your lungs are clear.

@@sumochik It's very common during pre-op testing. I haven't gone to mine yet but expect one done. Pneumonia is one of the complications after any surgery - so they make sure you don't have any underlying lung disease or infection. I believe they can also see your heart to make sure there is no enlargement.

I am an X-ray tech. Absolutely standard prior to surgery. Also C spine X-rays are getting used more to ensure no abnormalities prior to surgery. They want to ensure no problems with intubation :-)
