So I have pcos and I just had surgery 3 weeks ago. I have had baby fever forever and I hope this surgery will help me get pregnant! I know they said wait a year to get pregnant. Do we know why? What happens if I get pregnant earlier? I haven't had a period yet but I'm hoping! My last one was in May of 2015!

the reason to wait is so that you and baby will have a better chance at good health. when you are rapidly loosing weight the baby is exposed to whatever is stored in that fat on your body

yes, people have gotten pregnant during their first year, but it isn't the best or optimal, and I know that you want what is best for that much wanted little one.

well think about it. For a year or so after surgery your body is in a state of weight loss, getting used to suddenly eating so much less, and fixing all the issues that being overweight had caused. Add being pregnant on top of that, it's probably more than a body can handle.

I was told that it's best to wait until you are out of the phase of "rapid" weight loss because it would be very difficult to get the proper nutrition to sustain a healthy pregnancy

Much better to wait, like the doctor's say (they usually know what they're talking about) and have a happy, healthy pregnancy

It's extremely dangerous for you but particularly for the baby. Take this time to concentrate on your health and once you're at a healthy weight (and at least a year out) - start planning a family and give yourself the best chance of having a healthy pregnancy and healthy baby!

You cannot get enough nutrition at this early in the game to grow another human being. Please do not try to get pregnant before getting the okay from your physician.

If you get pregnant now you will be high risk because of your weight which is still high and the fact you had surgery. That is really going to suck a lot of the enjoyment out of being pregnant. High risk pregnancy is no fun, it is a lot of testing, doctor visits and restrictions.

Wait, at least 6 months until you are healed so you can eat enough calories to support a pregnancy.

It's hard enough to eat enough food to nourish yourself in the early days... Let alone a baby

Not to mention, now that I'm pregnant and dealing with morning sickness and food aversions, it is VERY hard to stick to the proper post-op diet while pregnant. At least in the first trimester. I ate mostly Protein after surgery, almost exclusively, but right now most protein foods make me sick. So I'm sneaking some in with Beans, hummus, Peanut Butter, etc but eating a LOT more carbs than I would have or should have been eating in that rapid weight loss period. You have about 6 months of honeymoon time after the surgery (I know they say a year, they lie) and you need to USE that now. you'll never have that time again.

I'm sure you meant "they lie" jokingly/tongue in cheek? I'm sure it's true that it only lasted six months for you and I'm sure others have had that experience too... But many of us did have a year and some say they've had 18 months... I'm sure it's lasted even longer for some. Everyone's experience is different. Doesn't mean they lie.

Sorry, just meant you can't count on it. I'm sure some get longer than others. In group I'm in, of people who all had surgery in the same month, we all slowed down around 6 months or so out. Different surgeons, different starting weights. We all had to work much harder at it after that. I don't mean weight loss stops, but that the easy and fast weight loss becomes slower, harder weight loss.

If they all started at a lower BMI like you, it isn't a surprise they stopped at 6 months.

Plus the first 6 months you are just healing, that isn't real restriction. The restriction you have at 6 months after you have healed is your real restriction. Too many people depend on the healing level of restriction to control their eating instead of following their eating plan properly.
