I am just so angry!

It seems I can't do anything around the house without finding something that someone has done to irritate me. This morning it was my husband not putting the dog leash back where it needs to be, so I can take the dog for a walk. My son leaving glasses, open chip bags, and a general mess on his desk.

These are all things that I can typically coast without much problem. But now I am having episodes of extreme anger. Please tell me this is only temporary.

@@Jennifer Ostermeier hi there! i cannot tell from your profile when, and if, you have had surgery. i assume you have. how far post op are you?

i have found myself feeling very irritable occasionally. it usually only lasts several hours, and has only happened a few times. i feel for you. the best advice i can give is this: when you feel very irritated, remember your body is changing a lot! hormones are bouncing everywhere. take it as just part of the weight loss journey and dont go nuts on your family. just walk away, go outside, take a deep breath and get it together. your family does not deserve to be jumped on. i say that because i am preaching to myself as much as you. i have lost my temper when i should not have. it is not permanent. try focusing on the weight you will lose and how great you will look and feel :) this too shall pass my friend.

Hormones are likely at play here. Tour body's still freaking out and healing, too. Yoga, meditation, therapist?

You're losing weight faster now than you ever will. Your body / bloodstream / everything is just flooded with waste products and old hormones that have been stored in your fat cells. At least that's what I've read many times online.

The good news is that this won't continue indefinitely. But in the meantime, it's time to drink lots of Water and to exercise as much as you can to release the tension you're feeling. It really will help.

Hang in there. :)

Not sure when you had surgery, but I found myself to be unreasonably angry over small things for the couple of months post-surgery too (almost like PMS). I also didn't get a period for 3+ months, so chalked it all up to hormonal changes, etc. Am def not feeling those irrational issues any more...

I agree with the others. With only being a month out from surgery, it is likely the hormones being released back into your blood stream from your fat stores. A little further out from surgery, If you experience this, you might be "hangry". About 6 months out for me, I started turning into a mega-bi*** if I went more than 3-4 hours without eating. I didn't feel physically hungry, but I would start really snapping at people. The people around me often noticed it before I did. I was a total Snickers commercial. But instead of eating Snickers, I would eat a cheese stick or a turkey stick or something and immediately get back to normal. My husband and I went on vacation with my parents around that time and the problem with vacation is that you are out of your routine and not eating on a normal schedule. So my mom finally took to carrying around turkey sticks and little packets of peanuts in her purse, which she would force me to eat at the first signs of "hangriness".

Fat stores hormones and it the same hormone mix that causes PMS. So you will experience bouts of extreme irritability, anger, weepy/sadness, all quite possibly in the same hour. Even more fun if it's a guy who has no idea what PMS feels like! ;)

Just warn close friends/family that you might be moody for the next couple of months as you lose weight and remind yourself when you start seeing red or feeling like bursting into tears - this is a hormonal reaction and to adjust how you react towards yourself and others. It's not them or you - it's a biological process your body is going through - so try not to let it get you down or take it out on others. Excuse yourself and go scream or cry in the bathroom if that helps, but keep calm and remember it's just your body breaking down fat and clearing out stuff it doesn't need any more! :)

Oh yeah, I'm still angry. I am trying to use different skills to deal with this shit. I'll keep you posted.

I was just messaging my surgery family about this! I've been so unstable the past few weeks. I started dating an old friend and I get so butt hurt by certain things he says or DOESN'T say. Things that wouldn't phase me pre-op. And at work, my vision literally goes black with little "stars" when I get stressed or frustrated at a co-worker. I am 3 months post-op and hope this ends soon.

That's scary. Have you had your blood pressure checked? This is not something to take lightly.

I agree. I had high blood pressure during my pregnancy and the same thing happened. Every time I go to my pcp, my bp is normal though.

@@morgankw You may need to wear a 24-hour monitor. Definitely talk to your PCP about this.

I will do that. I didn't know there was an option for that. Thank you @@KristenLe !
