Haven't seen one started yet, so I thought I'd start one for this week.

I have a couple of NSVs this week:

  • Finally got my wedding band and engagement ring resized. They were literally falling off. Now that I've been maintaining for 6 months, I figured I'd go ahead and get them sized to their FINAL size.
  • Ran 7 miles for my half marathon training last weekend.
  • Bought a new FitBit Blaze. It arrives today!

What were your NSVs this week?

I have both scale and NSV today! 40 pounds down as of this morning. So excited!

For NSV... I performed at a show last weekend and for once I didn't hate my pictures.

A couple of weeks before surgery, I bought a pair of jeans that I could only dream of fitting in. Today is blue jean Friday at work, and I am rocking them bad boys:)

My stall broke, I avoided the bakery today when things went very bad and then turned around. Last Saturday night 4 friends from highschool ask me to go eat, I first turned them down and then decided at the last minute what the heck and went. I didn't eat but drank Water and had a great time.

I signed up for a sign language class, which is something I've wanted to learn since I was a kid. The pre-surgery (and almost 300lb) me wouldn't have signed up for fear of being the heaviest person or just in general being self conscious of being in an unknown social situation. I would have told myself it was because the time or the money or the drive... But now 70lbs are gone and so is my inhibition!

Back in 2011 I was on my biggest health advances as an adult up to that point. I'd dieted and lost 120 lbs and was killing it in the gym. Ankle surgery & hernia surgery halted the gym....and I didn't return. I did, however, return to poor eating habits and piled on a heap of weight.....as in all the weight I lost plus a heap more.

Well.....sleeve surgery has been a true lifesaver.

I resumed my gym work recently and it feels really good.

I recently went through all my clothes and sorted them out....keeping only those that fit. Interesting to find quite a bit of gym wear. Among them were a pair of black 2X UA pants and a 3X snug fitting Nike t-shirt. They were a bit too small to wear back then in 2011.....but I was hoping to reach the point where they would be okay.

Wore them both yesterday to the gym. Feels pretty good to be getting into smaller clothes. Looking forward to the day when these become too big.

My NSV is that I just saw a posting on my Facebook reminding everyone that this is the last weekend for GirlScout cookie sales. That means I have made it ALL the way through GS cookie season without buying or even having one! Wow!

This !!!!!

My last two trips to the grocery store have found me walking by those little minions pushing their wares.......Lawd......the pressure that the little sprites and their mom's can put on a guy whose just trying to grab a cart or basket and get in/out of the store.

I wound up making donations but left the Cookies. Seemed to be an arrangement everyone was happy with. Did leave one of the Girl Scouts puzzled, though. I could hear her ask her mom, "Why doesn't he want to take the Cookies ?". I didn't hear her reply.......I was busy putting safe distance between me and the Samoas & Thin Mints. :o

NSVs this week --

* Decided a week ago to kick my new dark chocolate habit -- and haven't had a single bite all week. :)

* Hubby didn't die. Not kidding. Really. :)

* I finally had time to take a shower. :)

(And that's what they call burying the lead.)

!?!?!?!

What happened!?!?

Two months after I was sleeved (in 2014), my dear hubby was diagnosed with cancer. It went into remission during his chemo treatments. Yea!

But 6 weeks ago we learned that his cancer has come back and more aggressively this time. So his doctors decided (and hubby and I agreed) to treat it aggressively with more powerful chemotherapy.

The first chemo treatment a few weeks ago knocked him on his ass -- so much so that he's been in big trouble. His white blood cells / platelets are in the basement -- barely any at all. He really could have died and still isn't out of the woods.

Also this week at home, he passed out twice and hit the floor due to not following my instructions about staying seated when I am out of the room. So some of my additional NSVs for the week are that he didn't: (2) get a concussion, (3) have a stroke, (4) have a heart attack, or (5) break a hip.

The good news is that he is slowly improving. But he's still weak as a kitten and negotiating hard with me to let him drive by himself.

Men! Jesus!

@@VSGAnn2014 my hubby is just as stubborn so I feel you. They also hate feeling powerless so that is why they push through. Tell him if he doesn't behave we are all coming over and tying him down

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
