Stretched Sleeve

Hello all!

I am 3 years post op and I have lost about 200 pounds after having the gastric sleeve. I was maintaining my weight well, I always followed the rules besides not drinking enough Water. I got all my Protein from food eating no more than 1 cup or obviously stopping when I was full. I don't exceed more than 800-1000 calories a day. I basically played it by the book.

Well recently I had gained around 30 pounds in like 4 months...I did fall off the wagon for a bit but once again I never over ate, it was more my choice of food that was the problem. I quickly got back on track and have lost a few pounds. I have always been in contact with my dietitian. Recently I decided to contact my surgeon to make sure all was well. This morning I had an upper GI done and the radiologist said my sleeve has stretched...i am so upset and sick to my stomach...I dont understand how it stretched...I know my doctor wont believe me when I tell him that I never over ate...What do you guys think?

I certainly don't eat like that every day! Of course you would gain weight over time. If I go to a birthday party, I will eat some of that stuff. What is that, like once every couple of months? I have

I've never even heard orf such a thing happening. Did they give you any idea of how much it allegedly stretched? Reading your story up until the sleeved stretched part, I was almost certain that your

  • I've seen numerous posts here that run something like this: "I've gained XX pounds. I don't understand why I've gained weight. I never overeat. I eat healthy food that's good for me. I don't bin

My post-op experience has been that carbonation turns on my stomach acid machine and ai yi yi!

I don't worry about carbonation stretching my sleeve. But I really, really, really cannot make carbonated sodas part of my regular drinking regimen without inviting massive GERD.

Not gonna repeat that experiment! ;)

Just sayin'. And, as always, feel free to conduct your own experiments. Your mileage may vary.

It's amazing how many "expert doctors" are on this site. We are so blessed that they choose to share their "knowledge" with us.

Or people who are just "living their lives post weight loss surgery" and "know what has worked for them".

Funny thing, @@Babbs, I kind of thought that's what these silly old things called "discussion forums" were for. Huh.

;)

Yes, forums are everyone becomes an expert and know more than doctors.

We are all doctors because we share info and experiences?

I could picture my mother: "My son the doctor, a mother should be so proud". :)

I'm not a doctor in real life, I just play one (unknowingly) on bp.com. :D

HEAR YE! HEAR YE!

THERE WILL BE NO MORE MEDICAL RELATED QUESTIONS ON BP.COM BECAUSE WE ARE NOT DOCTORS AND CAN'T POSSIBLY KNOW FROM OUR OWN EXPERIENCES BECAUSE OF OUR LACK OF MEDICAL DEGREE.

Thanks,

Management

I have no doubt the collective knowledge from first hand experience of forum members far exceeds any single doctor or nutritionist. It may be conflicting at times but it is actual, real life knowledge, not just "book learnin"

I have done well to just read through and keep my lips zipped, but someone stirring the pot to purposely cause hard feelings when people are having a discussion about their experiences is RIDICULOUS and I had to say so. How is discussing individual experiences the same as being a medical professional?? GEEZ LOUISE people!! GROW UP! That is all.

I...yeah. :)

You go girl! Love it!

But in all seriousness, before someone takes medical advice from an untrained person over the internet, they should try to validate the information through reputable medical journals & studies and WLS hospitals; then asking their surgeon and/or PCP to make sure (with reasonable questions or concerns, not such as: "Is it ok to eat Tacos at 2 weeks post WLS).
