Need feedback on complications after 3+ years post op is there anyone out there going through a lot of issues like me? Stomach hernia constant stomach discomfort upset stomack all the time and stomach pain severe constant random uncontrolable diarrhea. I'm always cold I get super tired after eating pain after eating more with liquid And now stomach is twisting ....

been to several specialist and had many tests done doctor said i need surgery to correct hernia n twisting he said there is not enough data collected on sleeve because its a newer procedure to know long term effects i am wanting to know if any vets like me on this site is having these problems too ?

It is common to feel cold after WLS. Fat is a good insulator. As you lose fat, that insulation layer is gone and you will feel cold. Whenever I shovel snow, I now know how good hand warmers are. They are almost essential.

When a person is overweight, many times they have existing hernias that they are unable to detect because they are overweight. So hernia operations are common for those undergoing WLS.

Before I had WLS, I had two hernia operations. They were spread around 10 years apart. I do not remember pain being associated with these hernias. When I coughed, I could detect them. I suspect that if you are feeling pain, these are more severe and need to be corrected through surgery.

If you are getting sleepy after meals, it may be due to low blood sugar, a condition called reactive hypoglycemia. Several individuals that underwent RNY surgery experienced this condition. I do not know if it is common for sleeve patients.

I think your symptoms seem very serious to me(unlike James' post). Severe pain after eating and pain in your stomach doesn't sound normal. Maybe it is due to the hernia? I haven't heard of any others with this issue. Definitely consult with your surgeon, hopefully you have confidence in his abilities with WLS patients. I wish you the best.

I am sorry you are going through this. My sleeve was 4 years ago, been here since before that and I would NOT say those are at all common. I can't recall the name of when the stomach shape isn't right, but I hope they get you fixed up soon!

I'm over 4 years out and I don't have any of those issues but I do have a stretched sleeve and bad acid reflux. An EGD showed the stretch and reflux so I'm waiting for insurance now to decide if they will pay for a revision. If I were you I'd stay on the doctors to find a solution for you. I'm seeing on her a lot more people are having revisions due to not only regain but also complications. Good luck.

What kind of doctors are you seeing? WLS surgeons, GI doctors? I'm guessing you've had stomach biopsy?

I'm sorry you are uncomfortable. At the moment I can relate to a degree.

When they diagnosed"stretched sleeve" did they indicate how that happened? A recent thread about someone with a "retained fundus" has put this in a new light for me. Essentially a surgical error.

I was band to sleeve revision and so went to the most experienced of the surgeons at my practice. Due to the scar tissue they sometimes can't do a proper sleeve on revisions. I remember my surgeon teling me he thought I had a good "tight and correctly shaped" sleeve. I was coming out of anesthesia at the time so didnt inquire about what he meant, but now I think I get it. He was pretty sure he'd been able to remove the fundus and leave a banana shaped sleeve.

I'm over 4 years out and I don't have any of those issues but I do have a stretched sleeve and bad acid reflux. I'm having some of that randomly. Like once per month. When it happens... So. Much. Pain. And it take a week before I even begin to feel normal after an episode. Mine seems to flare when I get too much fat in a day so I'm working on managing that while maintaining my weight. Had my gallbladder and colon checked and both are fine (big sigh of relief) so still looking for answers myself. Best to get checked. Good luck.

I am 5-1/2 years post op from sleeve. I just had a repair in November. I had a hernia repair and my stomach had become shaped like a check mark. I didn't have pain just really awful acid reflux that wouldn't go away.

I am sorry you aren't feeling well, but I recommend contacting your dr. I am 2 1/2 years post op and just had surgery last week to repair hiatal hernia (again) and fix my sleeve. It had grown/stretched at the top (neofundus) and was pushing up on my diaphragm, causing a lot of discomfort. It was allowing food to stay in this pouch and causing acid reflux. Dr said this is a risk w the sleeve surgery...under 5% chance...of course it would happen to me. I hope u find relief soon.

10-15 years prior to WLS surgery I regularly ended up in emergency about 4-5 hours after eating/usually about 2am in the morning.

The symptoms were as if I was being pumped up & there was no way to release this blowing up feeling which was extremely painful, distressing & debilitating.

Every time tests, x-rays etc were taken but nothing could be pin pointed the cause.

Talk of twisted bowel etc but nothing concrete was found & the only immediate solution was a shot of morphine & near instant relief ensued. Was so bad I stopped eating regular evening meals.

Had an emergency physician in KCMO suggest immediate surgery, with no diagnostic cause apparent.

Glad that poor decision making & cutting never eventuated!

Into this a couple of years, I had an apparently unrelated hernia surgery.

The bloating problem disappeared. So one might reasonably assume the hernia was causing this other digestive related issue.

Definitely worth exploring if the symptoms are similar & it sounds they could be so.

I'll be 7 years out in April. I do have acid problems and I am having a scope on the 21st. I hope it doesn't show anything weird like my sleeve is the wrong shape.

Acid is a big problem for sleeves farther out.

Please let us know what you find out from your doctors. You must get to the bottom of why you're having pain. the only pain I've had is when I needed my gallbladder out.
