I was going to post this in pre-op; but I really want the surgery scheduled for Jan. 20th. So I think I want to hear from post op patients who will calm my fears. I jumped through so many hoops to get this far and have insurance approve it; I can't believe I'm having these thoughts. Tell me it normal and to just plug away.

I feel an overwhelming feeling of not going through with it. These are my thoughts. I'm scared what if I don't wake up. Am I too old, I'll be 62 on Jan. 25th. I travel extensively for work and my work is leading meetings where the group is focused on me - what if I do an Al Roker and pooped in my pants, or my farts smell awful during a meeting or lengthy car rides with other company members. What happens 15 to 20 years from now when I may be dependent for someone else to make my meals. I also made the mistake or reading the complications forum. I have a temporary crown in a back tooth - well cemented I might add, but I even thought well maybe I should cancel because of that. Just a million thoughts are going through my mind.

Mind you, I've had just about every test under the sun and pass all just fine, I'm not on any medications, and have moderate sleep apnea. But I'm fearful of complications.

I very , very , very briefly had those thoughts last May. Best decision I made was to go through with it! I am 52 and it was my first surgery. NO REGRETS!!!!

I had those thoughts right up to insertion of IV. Felt regret afterwards when I was nausea and wondered why I did this to myself. 5 days post op - glad I did. I miss crackers right now but think that's because of needing to crunch something. I already pooped the pants (LOL) so I think that will happen during your stay at home.

My daughter has been my rock taking care of me before she returns to college from winter break. My son is not as helpful as he has become self absorbed with senior year in college.

I share this info as I think everyone should know how family can make you feel one way or another

Did not share with co-workers and know that they will be surprised when I return to work in 3 weeks. What will I wear??

I was 62 when I got sleeved on 12/23/2013. My option was dying young like my mother, from an obesity related abdominal aortic aneurysm. I never knew if I was going to wake up from when I went to sleep or not. We have no guarantee of anything, not even the next minute. But I knew that I had to do something. My spine was collapsing under my weight and was probably just months from being wheelchair bound.

Fear can immobilize you. It is good to look at all sides of this process, but somewhere along the line, you have to do a "cost / benefit" analysis. Are the risks of dying on the operating table worse than not doing anything and letting your earthly container deteriorate?

For me, I just knew that I was waaaaay overdue for a maintenance overhaul and some body work. This is like being at the top of the meanest tallest fastest roller coaster. You got that far, so you may as well stay on for the ride.

Don't let your age be the major reason to back off. Hospitals and doctors don't make any money from dead patients. It definitely is in their best interest to take good care of you.

Did I regret the surgery? No. I was uncomfortable for a few days,but once I started on purees, I began to feel better.....and I have been better every day since. So, make your lists. One list is any excuse you can think of to back down from your intent to get healthy through bariatric intervention, On the other list, write down the 1, 237 reasons to follow through in this "Last Straw" thread. OMG I nearly bolted from the hospital the day of surgery because I waited so long. They made me get there at 845 and didn't do my surgery until after 1 pm. If my husband wasn't there and didn't drive me, I probably wouldn't have made it. I hope your daughter is going to the hospital with you. Having Ron there helped. I had all the same worries. I had a poop incident on days 2 and 3 post op but nothing since thank god. The poop incident was probably from gall bladder removal according to doctor. I also have to admit when everyone else is having a normal meal and I'm struggling to get down my 60 grams of Protein I think that I shouldn't have done it. That being said, every day for the last week I have been able to go shopping in the back of my closet and find things 2 sizes smaller that I can wear. You don't know how insanely happy that makes me. Also, I have severe arthritis in my left hip and used to have to have Ron put on my sock on that foot but now I can do it myself. I feel like a kid that finally learns to tie their own shoes. But even for my EGD, they want me there at 1130 for a 1:30 procedure. I will be starving, but at least that is my first day of pre-op liquids only. last week for my cardio CT Scan with contrast. My appoint was 8, got there, they prepped me for IV and I sat there until until 9:30 before we got into the CT Room.

This made me smile and I do mean that in a loving way. I am 58, I travelled for work before and after my surgery, too, and I developed cold feet and doubt before my surgery. But I saw my beautiful mom die a slow death from obesity complications. At least she had my help. I will have no one. I cannot go through that. I had the surgery. Fifteen months out, I swear to you it was a miracle. Best thing I ever did. Don't let fear make your decisions for you. Believe in yourself. God bless!

Very normal!!!! This happen to me a week before the big day. I almost changed my mind as they where wheeling me in for surgery and putting me on the table. All I could do was pray and went off to sleep. I was not living before surgery but now feel great. I'm so glad didn't let fear change me and rob me of my new life. Do what's best for you and feel the peace about doing. You will be great!!

I am 58 and have tried countless ways of losing weight. Cold reality I want to be there for my Grandkids as long as the Lord will allow me. I can/t lose and keep off on my own. Grasp the situation and see if your thoughts are similar. Can I lose weight? Can I comfortable keep it off? Do I want to get around better with less pain? Me, not on my own. The sleeve and double hernia surgeries didn't scare me, I had a great surgeon and am recovering very well. Do your homework on your Dr.

I survived open heart surgery, January 2013, where the heart is lifted out, placed in a bowl of ice Water and mitral valve repaired. Why in ice water, after surgery Dr. said so heart wouldn't try to beat. I AM GLAD I DIDN"T KNOW ALL THIS

30 pounds in 30 days, trying to slow it down

All surgery has its risks, but I would easily do this again if I woke up a twin and needed a sleeve. lol.With the part of the stomach cut out, your food love will be diminished.

I am officially 2 days post op and had the worst cold feet as soon as I was being taken into the anaesthetist. I'd seen someone throwing up in the recovery room and that sent me into instant panic, I hate throwing up although it's a huge possibility with the bypass it can be avoided and my least favourite thing to do. I had such cold feet, so many thoughts were running through my mind and you begin to doubt yourself and the choice. However when you weigh out the pros against the cons you realise you are on this path for a reason and no one would choose such a path unless it was necessary.

I chickened out two weeks before my surgery. It just didn't feel right. Then a month later my mother passed away very suddenly. I am so glad I was not recovering from surgery and dealing with her death. I would not have handled it well. The Dr agreed with me that it was good I followed my gut instinct. Then 6 moths later I was finally ready and had my surgery on November 24. It went well and no complications. I couldn't be happier with how it is going. I know my mom is up there watching over me.
