Do you eat when you're hungry?

Recommended Posts

My plan calls for eating two ounces of food three times daily, but I don't feel it's enough. Having bouts of sudden and debilitating weakness that comes on suddenly. I can't tolerate Protein Shakes. Do you eat more often? How does it effect your weight loss?

I don't know what stage you are in...but I am almost 4 months post op. I eat 3 meals and 2-3 Snacks a day. My Snacks are simple things like 1-2 oz low fat cheese...or 2 oz almonds, or 4 oz greek yogurt. My meals are like an egg for Breakfast, some tuna for lunch, 3 oz chicken with a little veggie for dinner. I can't eat much at a time, so I span my meals out and eat like every 2 to 2 & 1/2 hours...so I can fit in all my Protein in...I eat at least 64 oz of Protein. If you are not sure, talk to your NUT or doctor.

It may be the quality of the food you are eating. If you aren't doing Protein Shakes how are you getting your Protein in?

I would have a sit down with your nutritionist. My guess is the 2 ounces of food included Protein Shakes and the reason you are getting weak is because you are skipping that. You need a plan to make up for that lack of nourishment.

Personally I found that early on I needed at least 3 meals and 1 snack. It was also helpful for me to brainstorm with my NUT on ways to work around my vegetarianism and food allergies.

I agree. You may be not getting enough nutrition.

Are you reaching your Protein target? It is hard to do so early out even with Protein supplements. If you aren't supplementing your protein what are you doing to get it all in?

Are you getting all of your fluids? Again, this is difficult early out even with protein shakes. If you aren't drinking Protein Shakes you need to get the Fluid somewhere.

Are you taking all of your Vitamins and supplements as directed?

I would also recommend you talk with your NUT about strategies for getting in all of your nutrition.

Adding:

I also found early out I needed to eat on a schedule whether I was hungry or not. I had to eat frequent small meals and Snacks in order to get in 100 grams of Protein a day.

Now that I am farther out, I still eat frequently.

I'm about 14 months out now and I feel like I'm hungry all the time, but only on the days when I can't get a 1 hour work out in. I feel like I eat a lot but when I look at the portion I realize its not much. My weakness is Reese Peanutbutter cups...frozen... and pizza... 1 full slice of pizza. Point is, yes I eat when I'm hungry and I'm worried I'm going to get fat but I know as long as I workout, balance things right and stay on track with the occasional cheat....okay daily cheat... but my muscles are still getting big so I can't complain.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
