12 days post opt. Can I take laxatives?

Went to the rest room to do number 2 last Wednesday and since then, 4 days now , I haven't gone again. Would like to take a laxative but I am afraid.

    Call your doctor. You may want to try stool softeners first because a laxative can sometimes cause painful cramping.

    I was recommended to take milk of magnesia if constipated. Has not worked yet ???? But I'm 4 days out still in clear liquid diet.

    the doc gave me DOCQLACE its a stool softener.

    Milk of Magnesium or Colace. No stimulants. Might take a day or two, but those work great.
