I have scheduled a consultation for a panniculectomy. I am hoping that my insurance will cover it by deeming it medically necessary, but the one big hiccup I am seeing is that I do not run to the doctor every time I have a rash or a yeast infection in my belly button, I tend to take care of it on my own so I may not qualify. My insurance goes on to say they will deem it medically necessary if it would be adjunct to another necessary procedure for improved surgical access or healing, thinking I will visit the gyno at the same time and see if I can get a bladder lift or hysterectomy.

I have the same issue with my insurance. I'm just going to keep detailed documentation and pictures of any rashes or sores, and document along when I saw a doctor. It takes a little bit of work, but well worth it if you can get your insurance to cover it for you!

For me, it only takes a phone call for my NP to record that I have a rash. I've all ready been prescribed the ointment. I've been told this will suffuce for the justification for insurance (which covers it).

I don't think you have to actually go to the dr. Worth checking in to :-)

Different insurances have different requirements. Mine required a certain number of inches overhang past the pubic bone. Mine didn't hang that far so no matter what rashes I documented they wouldn't cover it.

My surgeon said to take pictures to document rashes. Just an idea.

I took lots of pictures and they deems it medical necessary after being turned down.

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!

Having gall bladder surgery in a few days and I so hope the recovery is easier than the one from the modified DS! I could use a bit of luck/pep talk for a change. I'm starting to be able to walk around without experiencing dizziness, but it would be great if the random pain in my chest and abdomen would go away!!
