Approvals with BCBS Federal

Anyone had BMI of 38 and gotten approved with Federal BCBS? I am waiting to hear from them. I do have Diabetes, obstructive sleep apnea, high cholesterol and osteoarthritis. All these are new this year and decided sleeve could help me be rid of some. Hope to hear from others who have bcbs fed.

  • Just called BCBS Federal and I was APPROVED!!!! Wow that was a long wait but so worth it. The approval was done on July 21st so there must be a lag time from the time the decision is made to the tim

  • Good luck babbs2299. Today is your day. I am 3 months out now doing great. That first and second week were tough but each week after it gets so much better.

Thank you! I called BCBS and they said they haven't received anything yet! :( Trying to be patient but you know how it is... Hopefully ill hear something next week... We shall see.

I have fedaral bcbs standard, my bmi is currently at 35, with comorbidities of sleep apnea, hypertension and high cholersterol. My first appointment is Feb. 19th. My question is, within the past two years my bmi has fallen to less than 35, will I still be able to get approved for gastric sleeve surgery?

For my plan on BCBS FEP, they only needed one weight from each year. So if you have weights that are still at 35 or above then you should be just fine. Your coordinator will help walk you through it too. :) My weight fell below the BMI threshold with no co-morbidities (40 BMI) in previous years but I only sent my coordinator weights that were over 40 BMI - does that make sense? I got the print outs from the doctor's office and then scanned the selected ones and sent to my bariatric coordinator.

Thank you RNYDawn and yes it does make sense. In the process of getting my records now.

I had the same questions as you because my weight went below a BMI of 35 in 2013 (because I had just gotten the lapband taken out). I'm finishing up my 3 month pre-op process this week, and hope to have everything submitted to BCBS Fed next week. I'll let you know how it goes. I am hopeful, because as RNYDawn mentioned, as long as I have a high BMI recorded in 2014, 2015, and 2016 I should be good......hopefully ;). Even though the recorded weights aren't 2 full years (24 months) apart because 2016 just started.

@@NewLife1985 have you heard anything yet? Thinking of you!

RNYDawn your surgery is right around the corner!!! Yay! I'll be thinking if you!

And yes, NewLife, any news on approval or surgery date?

Hey ladies! Ugh! So turns out My coordinator thought I just needed 3 months of NUT appointment when in fact it's 90 days! My 90 days will be on Feb 18 so now I have to wait until then to resubmit! On the bright side once the received my paperwork they replied in 3 business days... They didn't deny it, it was just cancelled... I'm in vacation right now and won't be back home till next week so hopefully that makes the time go fast! :) thank you ladies for your support! :)

Enjoy your vacation!! The time will fly by. It's crazy how 90 days is different than 3 months. lol

My 90 days is up next week, so hopefully submitting then. We should be pretty close in surgery dates :). I'll let you know when I hear anything. Please do the same.

Awesome! Hopefully we will be sleeve sisters! LOL

My surgery coordinator just emailed me. They submitted my paperwork yesterday (February 9)!!!! Keep your fingers crossed for a speedy approval!

When should I start calling BCBS and asking about it?

YAY! I called the next day! They didn't seem to mind... It took 4 day to get it uploaded in their system. Let me know when they get yours! Sending Prayers for you! Keep me updated! :) Good Luck

HI! I have BCBS Federal and it took about two full weeks for them to pre-approve me. The wait was excruciating, LOL!
