Pre surgery diet

Anyone else NOT on a liquid diet before surgery??? They want me on a 1500 calorie diet. I'd almost rather just do the liquid!

  • I'm on a part liquid part lean protein diet. I have to have 2 protein shakes a day, but I can also have a 2 cup salad or 1/2 cup veggies, 1/2 cup non fat cottage cheese, and 3 oz lean meat, sugar free

Really? I haven't heard of anyone not being on a liquid diet. The whole reason behind the liquids is to shrink the liver. If I were you I would do liquids anyhow, and lots of Protein liquids.

Some do some don't. It just depends on what your surgeon feels comfortable with.

I'm on a part liquid part lean protein diet. I have to have 2 protein shakes a day, but I can also have a 2 cup salad or 1/2 cup veggies, 1/2 cup non fat cottage cheese, and 3 oz lean meat, sugar free jello, Popsicles, 1/2 cup yogurt. I just have to keep it below 1000 calories and no more than 80 carbs a day.

You shrink your liver by losing weight. Docs have different ideas for the best way to do this. Mine suggested low carb high protein and only liquids a day or 2 before. Liquids are way harder so if your doc would rather you just count calories i would say be happy !
