I can't get my protein down and I'm 3 days post op.

Try different types of shakes until you find one you can stomach. Buy unflavored Protein powder and mix it into some crystal light. You need to get it in!

Yes, you will be hungry again, don't worry. Right now your sleeve is still swollen--that will go away and as time goes on, you will find hunger increases.

Breathe deeply. You got this! :)

Is it a problem of pain? Or of not being able to stomach drinking any more cloyingly sweet shakes?

If the latter, try the powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury chicken Soup or any of the Syntrax nextar flavors - my favorite is the lemon tea.

Are you allowed drinkable yogurt in this phase? That might help you get a little more Protein in. And definitely try different types of Protein shakes and powders. If you have a GNC or Vitamin Shoppe in your area, you should be able to buy individual packets to try out.

I think it is mainly the feeling of "backing up" due to the hiatal hernia. I guess yogurt drinks would be acceptable too. I never thought of those. Thanks for that info. I just hope it gets easier and I'll be able to hang out with friends again at restaurants and still eat. ????

Oh you will! It just takes time. Hang in there. It will get easier and easier. Once you are onto solid foods you will have a whole new set of issues with learning what you can eat comfortably and how much and how fast, but trial and error will get you where you need to be eventually. Just take it one day at a time and know that each of those days is bringing you closer and closer to feeling "normal" again.

I'm just worried now that I've lost 10 pounds in 3 days and I feel it is too fast but I know I'm having a hard time getting any liquids down. I only need to lose a maximum of 50 lbs total so that means only 40 to go. Hopefully I don't go below because it would not be a healthy weight.

I was given ProtiDiet liquid concentrate in the hospital and brought some home. I put it over crushed ice and just take little sips all day. I also added in premier Protein, ProtiDiet chicken and Tomato Soups. In addition to Water I am just sipping all day. I certainly wouldn't wait until you feel hungry to start drinking your Water or Protein or you never will get it all in.

Best of luck.

For sure, this! You should be consuming Protein and Water on a timer right now. Not waiting for signs of hunger or thirst.

Where could I order ProtiDiet for the best deal? It sounds like something I could tolerate. I have the Premier Protein shakes but I just can't get them down right now. I would rather have something more salty instead of sweet. What is recommended to order?

I got some at my surgeon's office and have also ordered from Bariatric Choice. Here is a link: http://www.bariatricchoice.com/catalogsearch/result/?q=ProtiDiet+liquid

Edited to add: the liquid concentrates are sweet but the Soups are savory.

I hope this helps.

Thank you so much for this info. I will be placing an order tonight to get some. Did you like the Tomato basil Soup? What drinks did you like?

Yes, I liked both the chicken and the Tomato Soup. I've had wild berry, grape, orange, peach mango, and tea cranberry so far. They are all ok. The peach mango and tea cranberry are my favorite concentrates so far.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
