2 Days Post Open Severe Nausea

My daughter just had surgery on Thursday 3/26 and is having severe nausea to the point where she doesn't want to drink anything. She is also having alot of pain where her stomach is and says it feels like something is stuck in her esophagus like how a large pill feels when stuck. The pain and nausea are unbearable. Is this normal? Any advice?

Good news, we are home! She's still a little nauseated but able to eat a little bit. She's not eating or drinking much so they have set up home health to continue IV nutrition for a bit. We are super

@@ShellMilliner Thank you! She's doing really well so far today. The nausea has diminished a great deal! She has even taken a few bites of food today and is drinking without nausea and vomiting!

6 weeks Post Op today. She had the 2nd surgery on the kidney stone today and they successfully got it! It had traveled back up towards the kidney so that thing was not going to come out on its own,

@@newbeginning77 It is too high up in the ureter and her ureter and her ureters are smaller than normal. He tried doing laser lithotripsy but again, ureter too narrow for it to work without bursting the ureter.

@@ssourgirl - Good for you! I've suspected for a while a change in doctors was due, but to completely ignore the underlying condition and expect her to go about like a routine bariatric patient is unreasonable. Hopefully she can pass this stone soon so she can get on with the business of healing.

How's she feeling today?

I just found this thread and all I can do is emulate the words of everyone else, I'm so very sorry you are both going through this. I hope the stone passes quickly and things begin to resolve. Do you have anyone else helping you so you can have a break. I was the caretaker for my mother for a very extended period of time and neglected taking care of myself. Please allow yourself a break for at least a half a day a couple times/week.

I'm confused was this doctor even part of the bariatric team?

Hi RNYGal, thanks for checking on her. She was able to eat a little bit of mashed potatoes last night, first food in 4.5 weeks. She was in alot of pain throughout the night though. This morning, the nausea is coming back. She just threw up in fact. She hasn't had anything but a few sips of water today to take a pill. She wasn't able to take her oral pain meds because of the nausea. He stopped the IV pain medication and put her on oral only. She's also low on magnesium so they have her on IV Magnesium.

And I was told by the charge nurse today, they can't remove him as her doctor until tomorrow. I told her that we do not want to see him AT ALL. This to me is unacceptable. And the way they have to do it is for him to call another doctor in the rotation. This gives him ample opportunity to cloud his judgement with his bullshit. I'm sure he'll deny exactly what he said.

I plant to talk to the Bariatric Surgeon about what he said yesterday too.

No @@BLERDgirl, he is just the hospital internist who is on her case along with the Urologist and Bariatric Surgeon. He is not associated at all with the Bariatric Team.

Thanks @ShellMilliner

Unfortunately, we have no other family in the area so it's all up to me. I'm making sure I'm getting sleep, moving around, going home to sleep when I can.

Oh then double screw him! Just an extra hand in the pot.

To repeat what my surgeon told us, the biggest cause of leaks/complications is other doctors. Can you at least reach your bariatric dr by phone?
