I am 2 weeks post op, the diet brochure tells me, decaf coffee is OK and skim milk is Ok, so I am sipping first cup of decaf with skimmed milk.

Day after surgery once I had my leak check I could have decaf if desired as it fell into the "clear liquid group". However it may take a bit to drink the cup you can sip sip sip away all day long :)

all/many surgeons will give you different responses to when you are allowed to drink coffee

your surgeon might say one thing and "Jane Smiths'" doc might say something else

ie my doc had me wait 2 weeks

always/only listen to YOUR doc/NUT regarding any question you might have

since you didn't say otherwise, hopefully you aren't experiencing any major problems with recovery :)

if waiting to have coffee is your biggest problem.........

woo hoo

thats great :)

good luck ;)

Wait...back up... I can drink coffee? OMG! I've not had any coffee or soda since surgery. I'm going to buy gallons of decaf now. You guys have made my day/week/life

6 months out I have coffee all the time

Not decaf

Yup, I gave it up for awhile, then started decaf, and now I'm back up to about 20 oz. daily.

P.s. I use the coffee as a tool to help getting in my liquids. I add unflavored protein mix or use a protein drink to make it a moca. The warm liquid goes down easier and doesn't give me issues so it helps when I've spiked it. Bit with protein :)

  • 2 weeks later...

You guys, I am a coffee feen! I am having major caffeine withdrawals. My surgery was 12/30 and oh how I want a cup of hazelnut coffee with lowfat half and half.
