Hey, Good question. I think that Americans are much more conservative than Europeans and Australians are to be honest. I also think Americans are more into religion etc etc than we are. I love you yanks though all the same. Feel the love people.

For me guys downloading porn does not shock or upset me at all. Isn't that what guys just do?

I think porn for guys is about visual stimulation and not any emotional connection etc. It is not like they love these girls. They love or don't love their wives. Women are more emotional creatures though I think by nature.

In France it is ho hum for some male politicians to have a mistress. Was it Mitterand that had an illegitimate ( Hate that nonsense) Daughter? The press never touched it.

I used to live in France. Toplessness at all beaches was the norm and this was way back in the early 1980s and certain beaches were nude beaches. A five year old French kid would have seen more breasts in his short life than most American or Canadian men will ever have the chance to see.

Europeans were certainly accustomed to the notion of sexual infidelity in their leaders and did not view this type of activity as anything to make a fuss about. Indeed, the names of the mistresses of their leaders were open secrets.

On the other hand, few people other than farmers and cops owned guns or wanted to own guns. Gun culture was viewed as an American aberation as was, indeed, the distress which Americans feel over signs of sexual misbehaviour in their leaders. The lifestyle and the values in continental Europe are very different in many ways from those in America. It took me awhile to get used to life over there.

You know, I have often wondered what the heck our president or other representatives sex life has to do with their ability to run the country. So what that Bill Clinton was having some fun on the side. As long as he was running the country well, what does it have to do with us? Why is it any of our business. That should have been between he and Hilary and no one else.

It's thoughtless it gives an emotional rollercoaster ride, and fills their otherwise empty lonely lives with the drama they're so desperate for. There's lots of sex on TV here, but what you do watch wouldn't be half as shocking if it were everywhere. I think the regulations on television have more to do with preserving shock value than adhering to religious or moral standards.

There does seem to be a curious split in the American psyche. On one hand there is still a powerfully guilt-ridden and puritanical streak. I suggest that the modern expression of this is most powerfully voiced by such groups as the Moral Majority and by the religious right. On the other hand, there is also a strong streak of prurience - and perhaps it may be argued that this is the flip side of puritanism - in the American public. This is expressed through shock TV, an overwhelming interest in serial and mass murders, and the sexual misbehaviour of public figures. Stateside the news of Anna Nichole's death and the fate of her baby certainly eclipsed anything more serious in the way of current affairs.

You Americans are probably the single most fascinating people in the world at this time. You produce some of the finest television shows I have ever, ever watched. Such series as The Sopranos, Six Feet Under, Scrubs, 30 Rock, Dead Like Me, and I can cite more, are brilliant TV. This is sophisticated, creative, and adult television. But along with this we have the spectacle of the moral majority working its collective self into a lather over Janice Jackson's tit!

And you have provided us with the truly awful sound bite style of reportage, something that is beginning to seep north of the border. By selectively choosing to report only a few spoken words anyone with an agenda can make the speaker look like a fool or a wise man. By watching American news reports on mainstream TV any foreigner would think that Americans collectively suffer from ADD. Of course this ain't true.

Is that why there are so many Bushims? Is he a victim of bite style reporting?

Nah! He's just one big bushism!

I think we DO collectively suffer from ADD. Myself included. Diagnosed and everything. LOL.

Actually, I think we're all had our right brains pretty heavily stimulated by visual input, so we're random processors and really and truly cannot deal with a linear reality.

I think the American culture is a fascinating one, I love the glimpse of it that I get through here. We're so much the same yet so different.

I think its funny too that your country is SO enormous, with SO many people that your own news naturally is about all you'd get through on a daily basis.

I mentioned the other day that one of my favourite songs is our quasi national anthem, Khe Sanh, which is about how hard and confusing life often was for Australian men returning from Vietnam. And someone actually PM'd me and told me they did not know Australia was involved in Vietnam, lol! It is as huge and tragic part of our recent history as it is yours.
