Why Sugar Free?

Other than calories, why is sugar free so important? I have always hated the taste of artificial sweeteners. I am 5 days post op and I'm sticking with water and decaf tea. I can't stand the taste of crystal light or any other sugar free drinks. Any suggestions?

Unfortunately, I don't have many suggestions for you but I feel the same way. I am getting most of my calories at 4-days postop from blended Soups because I cannot take all the artificial sweeteners in the Protein drinks and shakes.

As far as Water, I put a tiny squirt of Mio in it to change the taste. I'm sure that has artificial sweeteners in it also but I'm not using very much.

I'm looking forward to the time when I can eat "real" foods again. I plan to steer clear of the artificial sweeteners as much as possible.

Have you tried the drink mixes with Stevia? It does not have that aftertaste like some of the others IMO.

They tell us to eat sugar free because sugar just causes more sugar cravings.

It's hard to lose weight if you have sugar in your diet.

I get my crystal lite with stevia online. It hits the spot sometimes!

I am six weeks out and for me personally, sugar makes me sick. Don't get me wrong, I can have a small cookie (which I just tried last week for the first time since the surgery). But anything over that I deal with the dumping issue. It doesn't hit right away.......I get nauseous first then it hits.

I think it affects people different but I try to stay away from it since sugar is one of the reasons I had to have this surgery in the first place. Good luck to you!!
