  • My initial instructions said liquid diet post-op for 2 weeks. At my 10-day post-op meeting, the P.A. advanced me to purees and said to experiement slowly with soft foods "as tolerated." Tomorr

  • I'm on liquids only for three weeks. Technically 3 weeks 4 days since that's when my follow-up appointment is. Then I'll be moved to soft foods. I skip the puree phase but spend a long time on liquids

My Doctor is much more strict, was on full liquid 2 weeks before surgery. Then clear liquid from surgery to week check up. Full liquid again for another 2 weeks then progressing. No normal eating until almost 8 weeks after surgery...

My doctor is the same way.

My pureed phase started yesterday, Day 18. I am now allowed purees, greek yogurt, scrambled eggs, cottage cheese, pudding, chicken/tuna salad, and soft oatmeal.

Prior to that it was:

Day 2-4: Clear liquids (Water, gatorade, crystal lite, broth, strained clear soups)

Day 4: Added drinkable yogurt

Day 7: Added Protein shakes

Day 10: Added strained cream Soups

On Day 28 I can start soft foods, including ground meats, legumes, canned veggies, canned fruits, and soft whole grains.

Pureed post-op day 2 through week 2. Soft diet weeks 2-4, then regular diet at 1 month for me.

Liquids 2 weeks, soft/puréed 2 weeks, slow intro of solids as tolerated after that.

Well my struggle is serious over here. I'm drinking shakes, I'm nauseous and I got hunger pains. I don't want food, food. But my stomach is hurting and I have to have beans or something. It can be super soft, but I need protein for energy. I going to work 5 days after my surgery and I need the energy to walk around and do my work. I do light duty work, but I can't do that sick.

The "hunger pains" is likely acid related. Did you get prescribed Nexium or another acid-reducer? My post-op regimen includes Nexium for at least a month.

No I didn't. Only something for nausea. I never thought about that.
