No. The only medicine I can use is Tylenol. Check with your pharmacist. Explain your condition and you'll see that they are very knowledgeable about what you can and can't take after bariatric surgery.

Sleeved, and surgeon said nothing but Tylenol. Bummer, because Advil is the only thing that ever helped me with pain. But I still will do as told.

How much Aleve do you take, if I may ask? This is the single most frightening thing about upcoming surgery for me - to discontinue ibuprofen.

I really do not understand how bariatric surgeons can be so different with their rules. My surgeon has been doing the lap band, by-pass and the sleeve for years. He is the one who told me that there is no harm in taking NSAIDS with the sleeve. He does not allow it with the bypass, however. I was taking 2 Aleve in the morning for knee pain, which I had been using for a number of years before this surgery without any stomach problems. Within the last month, I have had injections in one knee which inserts a form of cartilage in the joint. It has helped to a degree so my primary physician has now prescribed Mobic for me. I take one Mobic a day in place of the Aleve and it lasts for 24 hours, the Aleve only lasted for 12 hours and I would sometimes wake up in the middle of the night with knee pain.

My surgeon may be more progressive as I also did not have to fast before my surgery, only follow a low-carb Atkins diet for two weeks. My surgery was Dec. 26th, so for Christmas morning I was allowed bacon and eggs and only Clear liquids the rest of the day.

My physician also says i can take whatever for pain. I take T3 but was given tramadol post surgery. He said any pain killer would he fine. I also didnt have to fast or do liquid prior. I did a high Protein diet 2 wks prior with products they ask us to use called Healthwise. It was wonderful. Ate 6 times a day and only about 7-800 cal per day but was never hungry and got me off the garbage and accustomed to good foods. From MI btw

I'm going on a long road trip next week for my son's Army graduation (michigan to Georgia). I'm going to be in lots of pain from 24 hrs on the road. I have MS and it doesn't appreciate road trips, lol. I am taking Aleve JUST for the trip. I can't imagine 2 or 3 doses will cause any trouble...???

Congratulations and best wishes! I don't know about the meds but maybe you should ask your doctor. Where are you going in Georgia? I am guessing Ft. Stewart or Ft. Benning?

Kimba may I ask where in Michigan you had yours done? Because I sure wish I would have went there! I had mine done in Saignaw. Sometimes I think the surgeons err on the side of caution in CASE There is a problem they don't want a lawsuit. IMO. I work for doctors and it seems everyone is always worried about lawsuits.

@ i had my surgery done by Dr Foote in Grand Haven on the lake shore of lake michigan. He actually practices out of grand rapids but comes to GH. He is a leading Dr in the sleeves surgery and has done some ground breaking surgery with the sleeve. Hes an awesome doctor with an absolutely awesome supoort staff to back him up. I feel i made tue best decisiom by going to him. I live in muskegon but chose dr foote over the resident bariatric surgeon in muskegon. Best choice i have ever made. I can call tue office or email any of the staff and actually have cell numbers of tye staff to call them day or nite with pressing questions. They also have an awesome bariatric group that meets twice a month.

I'm from the Flint Michigan area but I went to Barix Clinic in ypsalanti. Great surgeon (Dr. Taylor). They were all so great and made a fat person feel accepted. I didn't get that when I tried McClaren nor Hurley.

Any parent with a loved one in the military today must be awesomely proud! My dad and his brother were at Ft. Benning during WWII. It will definitely make you sweat to be in Georgia. I promise. God Bless you, your son, and your family.

That they can eat through the stomach because it's so small now.
