Ouch! I had surgery on the 23rd. 2 days after getting home I'm having a severe gout flare up. I use to take a prescription nsaid called indomethacin, that would clear it right up. However, that's a huge no go now. It has been very difficult not to dip my hand in the prescription bottle in a fit of desperation.

Luckily my surgeon refilled my pain meds, but I will be out by Tuesday. Any advice please?

I saw your post and empathize with you. Nearly right after surgery I had an arthritis flare-up. I was sleeved on June 4th. The NSAID's I would normally use to control pain I can no longer take. I asked my surgeon's office what to do and they said extra strength Tylenol. I want to be good to my new tummy as it is still healing so I comply. Then the flare-up takes a turn for the worse, so much I start looking in the medicine cabinet for anything I could get my hands on to relieve the pain. Drug seeking behavior is not my thing but the pain level was off the charts. Percocet and Vicodin do nothing! I go to the rheumatologist and he prescribes me a corticosteroid. I feel some temporary relief- one day, not working and then I go the emergency room. They give me a cocktail of Tramadol, Diluid and Percocet. The pain stopped, high as a kite. They did an ultrasound and found a cyst in my left knee. Relieved to know I don't have a blood clot and I am not dying. I go back to the rheumatologist go on biologics and another pain suppressant/mood enhancer. Trying to be patient with the medicines, giving them time to work. Pain relieved in all areas now but the left knee. Tomorrow I am contacting an orthopedic surgeon. I have shared a lot, hopefully not too much... the point is the surgeon has his specialty- cutting out my tummy, rheumatologist helps me some, the ER revealed the underlying problem and hopefully the orthopedic surgeon can do something about it. See a rheumatologist, they treat gout, maybe there is a new medicine. I wouldn't risk taking what you used to it could harm your new healing stomach. Hope you feel better I know gout hurts a lot- take care.

I also had a huge gout flare right after surgery. Like you found out, our old standby Indomethecin, is no longer an option. With the approval of my surgeon, I was prescribed Colcrys. It doesn't work as fast as Indomethecin, but it does help. I now take Uloric every day to prevent flares. Been pain free for 6 months. Surgery was 8 months ago. Good luck to you. Gout was a major setback for me, but all is good now. It will get better!

I too had a gout flare up 4 days after surgery. I had my first gout attack 4 years ago with a uric acid level of 11.3. The gout was in my left wrist & left ankle & put me in bed or 2 weeks. As a result I don't skip my medicine except for this surery I take 400 mg of Allopurinol & 0.6 mg of Colcrys daily. I was off my meds for 3 days because of surgery. I crush all of my pills & stir them up in Apple or orange juice. Tastes awful but it beats having gout.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
