Tonight, I am packing for the hospital. My surgery is on Thursday. Since I am self-pay, mine will be done as outpatient, so I will leave the hospital the same day. I will stay in a hotel the night after my surgery and then return to the surgeon's office the next day to have drain removed before traveling 4 hrs. home. I am at a loss as to what to pack to be prepared for that night in the hotel afterwards and the long journey home. I would so appreciate any advice or tips. I appreciate each of you as I have poured through all of your posts over the past few months.

Hello Gammy10. I must say I have never heard of anyone having this surgery as an outpatient. You will definitely need really loose pants and tops to be able to sit comfortably. Also I would take a receptacle in case you feel queezy, you may not but just in case. Plenty of fresh water to sip at, and maybe a water spray and some wipes to freshen yourself. I would take some prescribed meds for pain before you set off so they are working as you go. Rectal analgesia works really well and lasts for a good 4 hours. Take something to amuse yourself, but I would make it light, not War and Peace! Are you traveling by car, if so I would just stop and have a little stretch from time to time.

I had surgery 3pm and was released the next morning, so pretty much less than 24 hours. I am 67. My husband and I were walking in the hospital. We took 1 pain pill at home after surgery as we had no pain, just a little discomfort. You have to have any meds approved prior to surgery so do not be dosing up without approval. This sleeve was 10 times easier than we expected, we hardly felt we had surgery. A loose dress would be perfect for the ride home as there will be a little discomfort at your navel. Honesty you won't need much of anything. Just some TLC. Best wishes!

I was the same as Linda.... My surgery was the last of the day and I was back in my room about 6pm where I promptly fell back asleep until 9pm. Released at 9am next morning and I walked a mile as soon as I got to the hotel. Rested in my room after that and then walked another mile in the afternoon. All I really needed that first night was loose clothes, a safety pin to attach the drain to my jammies and my ipad. They had me sipping water within a few hours after I woke up and I watched TV all night between dozing on and off. I never needed the pain Meds. I assume they won't release you if you are having any problems.

I had my sleeve outpatient. I slept all the way home. My drive was 3 hrs.

Thanks for all of the replies. I am all packed and about to head out. I have one last meeting with nutritionist and pre-op tomorrow then surgery on Thursday. I will admit...my current tummy is full of butterflies....so many emotions! I so appreciate all of the support, comfort, and inspiration I have gotten from this site!

Any surgery is scary, but this will be behind you before you know it, and then you will be so busy figuring out what and how to eat again as you adjust. Relax and daydream about the new life you are going to have! A big hug, Linda
