March 28, 201412 yr Hi, I'm going this weekend to get all my supplements before my surgery. I was just wondering as far as protein ready to drink supplements what are the best? Which taste the best too?
March 28, 201412 yr I would recommend the PREMIER PROTEIN SHAKES from Costco. They come in vanilla, chocolate, and strawberry. You get a case of approximately 18 for $25, each one contains 30 grams of protein... make sure to drink them cold. The chocolate taste like chocolate milk to me!!!
March 28, 201412 yr Has anyone had the problem with the premier ones from Costco getting REALLY thick? Did I get a bad batch, its never happened before!
March 28, 201412 yr All of my Premier Shakes have been fine. Of course I drink them up so fast they don't have time to go bad. I like the Premier because they have 30 grams of protein but if I was going for taste it would be Atkins Shakes, hands down. They taste like a rich vanilla milkshake, especially when really cold. I find its best to change it up and not stick to the same thing since that tends to cause food bordem. Also you can make your own shakes and add what ever flavors you want.
March 29, 201412 yr I have also had an issue with the premier shakes being abnormally thick. I took them back and exchanged em. Currently I am using a hydrolized Protein powder that is super easy to digest and taste ok.
March 29, 201412 yr I get mine protien drinks from costco too!, they have all been fine. I just descovered the strawberry flavor..so yummy.
March 29, 201412 yr Author Is there a amount of calories and carbs I should stay under in whichever protein drink I choose?
March 29, 201412 yr My Doc. Told me to stay away from the ensure and atkins because of the sugar content. But I had already bought a few so im am planning on using them up on my preop
March 29, 201412 yr My Doc. Told me to stay away from the ensure and atkins because of the sugar content. But I had already bought a few so im am planning on using them up on my preop Ensure, yes, it has like 25g carbs per shake.... But Atkins shakes have maybe 4 each!! They don't have as much protein as other shakes but they def don't have sugar or high carb count...
March 29, 201412 yr I vote fit the Premier as will. Yummy but 30 g protein. 160 cals. I didn't like the vanilla, but the chocolate IS like chocolate milk. Sometimes mine are thick too, but I still like them and drink them
March 29, 201412 yr If you have a decent blender at home, there are a ton of recipes for protein shakes using protein powder. I used, and sometimes still use pure protein powder(25 g protein per scoop), either vanilla or chocolate, or for fruity drinks, I also used Syntrax nectar, (23 g per scoop). Syntrax also makes unflavored protein powder that you can add to food & drinks. Personally, the ready made drinks tasted gross to me so I blended my own. My favorite shake was vanilla protein powder, 1/2 small frozen banana, 1/2 cup skim milk, water & a tablespoon of PB2- yum!
March 29, 201412 yr Costco had no problem at taking back a case of shakes, even if the case is half empty! I think it's a common problem but nothing else has that kind of protein in such a small container with such low carbs. Very very cold is the only way I can drink it though :-) love it in a blender with some ice!
March 29, 201412 yr I tried the Premier shakes from Costco and the chocolate ones got so thick it was like drinking gravy. I just tried the Pure Protein shakes and those were SO much yummier! I got the frosty chocolate and vanilla creme flavors. There is also a cookies and creme and strawberry creme I haven't tried. You can get these at Walmart. They have 35g protein and 4carbs/1sugar. I highly recommend these over the Premier shakes.
March 31, 201412 yr Has anyone tried the whey liquid Protein shots sold at walmart? I find they taste like half-set Jello. If you mixed them in Water, they do taste better. But I recently found they are made mostly with Collagen Proteins, which is not a good quality protein (Google collagen protein bioavailability). Since I’m only a week out from surgery and on the liquids only phase, I’ve been sticking to the Optimum Nutrition Pro Complex to hit my mark. While it’s not a shot, it’s 60g of protein when mixed with 8oz of water. So one of these for Breakfast carries me over to lunch and then I switch to the Whey and Casein proteins.
