  1. Hi LipstickLady. I am two years out from my surgery (4/30/14) and just back on the boards from a long hiatus. I went and reread your post and it is SO motivational. Especially to me since I have been slipping and sliding over the last year. Thank you for your thoughts and encouraging words.

    April 30th!

Hi All! It's been almost a whole year since there has been any action on this board. How is everyone doing? I have been doing okay. Not the best but okay. I had a baby in February and had a very rough pregnancy and a rough time after delivery. I gained 45 pounds during the pregnancy which was terrible and I was freaking out about the weight gain. I fell off the wagon and went hog wild after my baby was born and just have this 25 pounds I can't get off of me. I had a very frank talk with my NUT and she just shut down ALL of my excuses so a couple of weeks ago I started doing what I should be doing.....following the rules! So it's back to calorie counting and exercising. I just bout a Wii with the fit bundle thingy so I can exercise after work while my baby sleeps. I have lost 6 pounds in the last two weeks and hopefully more when I weigh tomorrow (crossing my fingers). I haven't been perfect but I'm trying not to binge. I realize I never really fixed the head part of this disease.....I only fixed the symptom with the surgery. I have a long way to go but I'm gonna get there.
  3. I will be one year out at the end of April. I live in San Jose (Bay Area) and had my surgery at Kaiser South San Francisco. I am willing to help answer questions or listen to anyone if they need to chat/talk. I am 35, married, no kids, right now down 98 pounds and still going.

    April 30th!

I am doing well. Just found out a few weeks ago that I am pregnant. We weren't planning on trying until October so....SURPRISE! So now I am gaining weight which I am supposed to although I am not too pleased about it. I don't want to get big again. I am just hoping I don't get too much weight during the pregnancy.
  5. Hello. I am 16 months post-op and 9 weeks pregnant. I refused to take the sugar drink that the doctors usually test you for gestational diabetes (GD) as was instructed by my surgeon. Now the doctors are having me take my blood twice a day for a week now, a week at 24 weeks and a week at 30 weeks. I have to take my blood when I am fasting for 8-10 hours and then again 2 hours after my biggest meal. I am having a problem with my sugar levels when I take my blood during the fasting part. The doc wants my sugar levels to be under 95 and so far I have tested over 95 everyday with the exception of one day where it was 88. When I test myself 2 hours after my biggest meal I always come in under the 125 that the doc wants me to be under. Has anyone else come across this issue with being over the target numbers? Has anyone else had or have GD? I'd love to hear about someone else's situation. ~Thanks!

Hey ladies! How is everyone doing? It's been awhile since we have caught up with eachother! Would love to hear how things are going for you all!
  7. I have been doing well. I ended up losing 100 lbs total with 20 more to go but frankly I am happy with the 100 lbs loss and if that's what it stays at then so be it. I found out a few weeks ago I am pregnant so that was a surprise to both me and my husband. We weren't going to start trying until October. Now I am gaining a little weight but it comes with the territory. I am just hoping that after the baby comes that I can lose everything I gain during the pregnancy.

    Gestational Diabetes

Thanks Julia! I will definitely try eating some protein before bed. The tough part right now is that the thought of protein makes me ill. But I will certainly try!
  9. Hi Joanne. I would ask your doctor about traveling and when it's safe. When I had my surgery It was an hour's drive away and I went home with no problems two days after surgery. But one hour is a far cry from a 12 hour drive. Definitely don't drive yourself, you'll most likely be doped up on pain meds.
  10. Hi newmaureen. I am in CA but if you have any questions or need help please feel free to ask.

    Protein bars

The apricot one looks yummy! I think I will have to try making those! Thanks catlover!

    I need a GENTLE multivitamin

I take the high potency chewables at Trader Joes. They are alright only because they are chewables and the only ones our NUT said to do if we took the chewables route.

I'd love the recipe too catlover!

    Faking it at a restaurant

When I have ordered a full meal at restaurants I have actually had a few waiters/waitresses ask me if something was wrong with the food since it looked like I barely touched it. I just tell them no that I can't eat much and either take the food home or, if it was bad, just send it off. Mostly I try to order appetizers but those can be really high in calories since most of them are usually fried. I like the idea of a salad with Protein but I have never been huge on salads. Right now though I definitely need more Fiber in my diet.

    Spicy food anyone?

My NUT told us no more spicy foods because they could cause an ulcer. However I have eaten wings with no problems and have accidentally taken a bite or two of something spicy (not a huge spicy fan besides wings).

    April 30th!

Hi Michelle, I can certainly understand being on vacation and struggling with just food in general let alone carbs! I think we can all relate. I am glad you are recommitting yourself to no carbs and not letting your vacation be an excuse. I brought my lunch to work today and ended up grabbing something carby that I could do with or do without. It's sitting in my desk right now and I am going BANANAS thinking about it. I am going to try my hardest to stay strong and not eat them with my lunch today. I should have brought a veggie instead. Next time I know better. Breakfast went well and I already have dinner planned with no carbs so I'm set. I just have to make it through the rest of the time in between the two and after dinner. That's when I want to snack the most is after dinner before bed. While I'm sitting in front of the TV. I am going to see if I can find a better way to deal with TV watching besides sitting there wanting to eat. Maybe I'll take up knitting or crocheting......something to keep my hands busy.

    April 30th!

Well today starting with no carbs I faile immediately with Breakfast. Lunchtime came and we had sandwiches at work and at least I only took one bite with the bread and then removed the bread and ate the middle part out of the sandwich instead. Tonight I made tacos and while I did eat the taco shells I didn't do my usual by putting potato and corn in with the meat mixture. I fell hard this afternoon and had some Pasta which immediately made me feel like crap. I feel like today was a mix of good and bad. Tomorrow I am striving for more of the good, less of the bad. One step at a time.

    Protein question

I am almost a year out from surgery and the thing I have noticed is that on the days where I don't get all of my protein in I tend to lose more hair then on the days where I do get everything in. That might be something that only happens to me IDK but just wanted to throw my experience out there.

@@kpay10 - Where can you buy Bai5 in stores? I found it online but I just want to try one before I order a bunch and decide I don't like it.

    April 30th!

@kapay and @@MichelleInCA - Anyone who can give the carbs up is a total hero in my book. My NUT said that we are to fit the carbs in last (IF there is room). I have had a problem with this from the get go. I want/crave the carbs and have had a VERY hard time getting them out of my life because they are EVERYWHERE. My husband loves carbs and potatoes and Pasta and rice and snacky carby stuff. We live with my parents and have one cabinet for our food so asking him to put his carbs into another cabinet isn't going to work. I just need to have enough resolve and will to say no. I know how hard it is, I did it before when I lost 99 pounds back in 2006-2007 when I did this crazy OA90 day diet. It was tough to detox from them but after that it was "okay" even though I never stopped craving them. Today is the day I am going to start the detox. You both have given me something to strive for and look up to. Thank you both. I need to get back to exercising. I don't have the money to go to a gym right now but my parents have an exercise bike I can use and I have a bicycle and those are supposed to be the best things to do when you have plantar fascistic. I am going to start there and see how it goes. I do much better with weight loss when I exercise. Thank you so much for telling me where you are and offering words of encouragement and lending support. It really means a lot to me.

    April 30th!

Hi @MichelleInCA. Sounds like you have the exercising down. I have never done yoga but right now we can't afford anything extra because my husband and I are trying to save for a house and we need all the money we can get. The worst thing for me is the snacking between meals. I just feel hungry (could be head hunger....I'm not totally sure) or bored or whatever emotion I am feeling. I am working in therapy to work through the emotional eating issues. Since I have been snacking I have been going over my allotted 1,000 calories/day. I know what the problems are I am just having the WORST time stopping them. It's as if once I am in the habit then it just spirals. I wandered away from this site for quite awhile but I am realizing now just how much I need the support and to connect with others who have had the same procedure and can understand what I am going through.
  23. I will be a year out from surgery on the 30th of this month. I am really worried though that I am able to eat so much food! Last night I was able to eat 3oz. chicken breast, 1 slice toast (dry), and a little gravy. For lunch today I ate sushi (well, the middle part of the sushi, didn't eat the rice), and then had 2 1/2 slices of chicken breast and still didn't feel full. I can't tell if it's just in my head that I am still hungry or if I really am. I never really got the swing of things with head hunger vs. actual hunger. I have nothing to gauge my eating on though really. I am just super worried and don't want to feel like I do right now, feeling like I am failing......

    Eating Too Much?

I am still losing (super slowly) and I do log my food everyday. @@CanyonBaby - I definitely need to stop and think about what type of hungry I am when I feel hungry. Lately it's been all the time but it could be just because of stress. Discerning the differences in hunger is extremely important. @@LipstickLady - Sometimes I forget just how much I ate when I was fat. It seems like forever ago. Now that you have pointed that out to me I definitely don't eat much compared to when I was fat. I used to eat a LOT! One time I remember polishing off an entire medium pizza by myself. Now I can handle one piece, only if it's thin crust. Big difference! Thanks everyone! I needed to hear all of this and get some support in how I am feeling.

    April 30th!

Hey Ladies! We are coming up fast on our 1 year surgiversary. How is everyone doing? I have been struggling a lot. I am at a 98 pound loss and just want to get the last 31 pounds off but I am having a really hard time. To top things off I now have plantar fascistic and can't do my normal walking which I love to do. I am hanging in there but just having a hard time. If anyone has any words of wisdom or could lend some support I could really use some.
