Just starting the process...

Recommended Posts

Hi there, I've just made my appointments with the psychologist, dietician and physician to get my checks done before I meet with the surgeon in April. I'm nervous about things now, more nervous they will find something wrong and I can't get the surgery. Probably worrying over nothing. Does anyone have some any advice or kind words?

I am also just starting the process and I know how nerve racking it can be. I might be looking at getting the surgery in 6-8 weeks or 6-7 months and I think as much as I want it to happen fast and soon so I can start living a life more time may be just what I need time to figure out what role food has played in my life and what role it will play after surgery. I think the best thing you can do is follow your doctors orders research research research the procedure you feel is best for you and your body, and try to stay positive!!! You will make it thru this

Thanks for you're replies they are much appreciated. It's comforting that others have similar thoughts to me. It's such a major step. I understand this is not a process to be rushed and remaining positive can be hard at times. All will be as its meant too. Good luck to you both with your journeys!!

Has anyone had any issues that delayed surgery? I'm just trying to prepare for all scenarios.

Hopefully the process will go smoothly. Like you said, it is a major thing. I had a few times when I felt scared to take such a drastic measure. But I'm 5 months post-surgery now, and I'm glad I did something that will help me finally have success with weight loss. There have been some times when I thought I might regret it, but those feelings have long since passed. The advice I give you is, before and after surgery, be patient. As long as it seems to take to get to your surgery date, that is really a short time when you compare to the lifelong change that will happen in your life. Good luck to you!

Chez can I be completely honest lol...these nerves you speak of and thoughts about every possible negative scenario are completely normal and often compete with the day dreaming about life after and your body after. I truly believe we have all in some way tried no it got get so excited because if we did and this didn't happen for us it would feel like the end of the world. Separating from the good ole buddy food is scary and also difficult. We want this now and to be honest Who wouldn't. This process does indeed allow you the opportunity to acknowledge your relationship with food in a way you never would if you did not have this "out." Embrace this period to become more aware of yourself on many different levels, many, you've never discovered.

Know that feeling!

I am feeling acutely nervous preop myself. Still preop, going through dietician/psych/endocrinology assessments.

It's nerve wracking. Keep going :)

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
