Feeling Weird

I'm feeling really awkward. I go this week for my post op. I've been eating regular good but being careful about whites. However, I am always hungry and stop myself before feeling full because I don't feel full and guilt rises. I don't eat as much as before but after I eat I feel like I have over eaten. These protein drinks make me gag now. I can't take the ones with thicker consistency at this point. I am almost excited about getting a full because I need the restriction. Anyone else with this feeling?

it is not uncommon for post surg. , before the first fill to feel hungry. your post seems very normal for all of us. of course check with your doctor but on most days i don't need a Protein drink. i get enough protein from food. i use the drinks if i am not at my grams of protein for the day, or if i am really hungry at night and need something for that hunger. my doctor doesn't want Protein Drinks as replacement meal. although i admit sometimes in the morning its all i can do is get a Protein Drink down. ask your doctor what they would like you to do.

Hi Fnika, I think what you're experiencing is very common. The band has been installed but it's not adjusted yet to help dim that hunger. As for the protein shakes, I was banded Nov. 5 and I haven't been able to drink one since. Every one is different as far as how many fills are needed and sometimes it takes a while. This is a partnership with your medical professionals and they'll be working closely with you to get it just right. Be gentle with yourself and know that you're on your way. What's great is that you're tuning in and listening to your body. That's something I'm really working on -- knowing when/if I'm hungry and when I'm full, what is the old me just trying to go back for more and what is a real need for food. It's a process and we are all in this together. You'll get there!
