Main Entry: en·abler

Pronunciation: \i-ˈnā-blər, -bəl-ər\

Function: noun Date: 1615:

one that enables another to achieve an end ; especially : one who enables another to persist in self-destructive behavior (as substance abuse) by providing excuses or by making it possible to avoid the consequences of such behavior

food ADDICTION

Food addiction manifests itself in the uncontrollable craving for excess food that follows the ingestion of refined carbohydrates, primarily sugar and flour substances that are quickly metabolized and turned into sugar in the bloodstream.

Due to those uncontrollable cravings, a food addict's quality of life deteriorates when he or she eats sugar, flour or wheat. It can deteriorate physically, emotionally, socially and/or spiritually.

If any of the following symptoms are familiar to you, you may be a food addict:

Physical Symptoms of Food Addiction

• Do you think you cannot control your intake of food, especially junk food or high sugar foods?

• Have you tried different diets or weight loss programs, but none has worked permanently?

• Have you found yourself vomiting, using laxatives, diuretics, or exercising a lot to avoid a weight gain after you have eaten a lot?

Many food addicts are obese and have tried numerous methods for weight control (diets, drugs, surgery, etc.) yet nothing has created a permanent solution. Other food addicts have never been obese. Their physical weight has been controlled by extreme measures such as excessive exercise, purging through vomiting or laxatives (bulimia), or the severe and unhealthy limiting of food substances(anorexia). No matter which version of food addiction fits you, all of these symptoms become more severe with time and eventually lead to physical problems that can create an early and sometimes painful death.

Emotional Symptoms of Food Addiction

• Do you find yourself feeling depressed, hopeless, sad or ashamed about your eating or your weight?

• Do you find yourself eating when you are upset or reward yourself with food when you do something good?

• Have you ever noticed after eating sugar, flour, or wheat that you become more irritable?

Food addicts notice that their emotions become more severe, intense, or unreasonable when eating the addictive substances. For many food addicts, emotional life may deteriorate into despair, depression, or thoughts of suicide.

Social Symptoms of Food Addiction

• Do you eat in private so no one will see you?

• Do you avoid social interactions because you feel you do not look good enough or do not have the proper fitting clothes to wear?

• Do you steal other people’s food?

• Are you more interested in what food is served at social gatherings than looking forward to the warmth of being with the people attending?

A food addict’s social life is affected by intense obsessive thinking about food. Making eye contact with people and taking an interest in developing friendships or intimate relationships become secondary to locating and eating addictive foods. Food addicts often hide or steal foods and eat in secret.

May I be so bold to suggest that those who justify and seek permission/absolution with regards to their drug of choice are the same ones who thought WLS was a cure? That the sleeve would do the fighti

You're right. Depending on what support you're looking for this site can be either good or bad for us. For me, I need the slap in the face, tear me apart reality that slipping up is not an option.

So I'm on my way to shop for a bicycle. I don't even recognize myself. Love my sleeve. Me a year ago:

Love the new profile pic! Are you going to post a "me, today" pic as well?

What is a cottage pie?

Piggy..

So, I'm cooking up some minced beef. Gonna make half chili and the other half a cottage pie. First meal I've cooked since surgery (apart from the family feast). Here's hoping I can eat some. Been existing on protein shakes and not much else. Not quite a whole pig, but it's a start.

Sounds yummy! I made a cottage pie with mashed cauliflower instead of the potatoes. Not bad. I hope you get to enjoy some.

What is a cottage pie?

Minced beef, fried up with onions (no added oil y'all!), mixed with a rich gravy and with a topping of mashed potato. Some (piggies) add grated cheese on the top. Bake it all in the oven, and there it is. I added some frozen spinach to try to get in some veg.

Thanks for responding...I'm back in Denver now with about 600 foils in my hair waiting to revert to a blond again.....deep sign of relief. Being on the road is good and bad. I love the work, but I get a little lonely. I do get 3 day weekends almost every week, so I'm sort of ruined for the real world. I was feeling fat, but realized it was my new pants and belt that felt a little tighter than the ones I bought a month ago. I was sure I hadn't lost any weight. My Friday routine is to wake, pee, strip, weigh....today down another 4 lbs... So that makes 50lbs since surgery! 59 total. My mind fucksED with me. Continually. I have a thinking disorder to go with the rest of my complex set of not so unique food issues. Thanksgiving on the beach sounds wonderful!!! We are doing Prime Rib this year. I'm not sure how I'm going to negotiate that. Lots of family and friends and food. I'm sure my usual week on the road is easier than holiday meals. In fact, now that I'm down to one breakfast taco, sans the tortilla, and one beef taco (for lunch), without the tortilla again.. and greek yogurt from the hotel breakfast, eating on the road is much more sane and simple than before surgery when I ate it ALL, and was fucked in the brain the whole time. Weds was a bad day, maybe more tired or hormonal than usual. Good news is I'm home. I weigh less. I'm sure to be blonder in another half hour. I'm having Prime Rib for Thanksgiving. I have friends here on this forum who truly understand me.

Blond! I was always jealous of women with lighter hair because there is so much you can do. Go lighter and highlights. When you have black hair it's just black! I do have gray in it now and instead of dying it I enjoy it it's like my rendition of highlights :P

Isn't it a trip to go away and come back lighter??

We went away this summer and I ate!!

I was scared shitEDless when I came home...

But I was down? Weird!

Yes the beach is fun and it gives my little family unit time to bond and tell each other we are thankful for each other :)

Cottage pie

We have that here! It's called shepherd pie :)

As my son would say...

I like pie :D

Mmm. The chili went down well. But there is MASSES of it. There's easily enough to last me a month. Same with the cottage/shepherd's pie. Note to self - cook for a thin person instead of a fat one!!

Shepherds pie has lamb and cottage pie has beef. Otherwise they are the same.

GG, the profile pic only from a few weeks ago when we were in Melbourne.

I bought a bike and rode it 5 km home! I'm exhausted but proud. I got this one: http://m.specialized.com/us/en/bikes/globe/work/work-2-step-through

I had to get rid of my bigger cooking pots. I bought a very small crockpot and a 2 qt pressure cooker and even though they are tiny compared to the stuff from before, they still make too much food.

I have to cook half a lb of meat at a time. That makes us four servings (my husband is also sleeved). Alb of meat is way too much for us to cook at once. Similarly 2-3 chicken thighs at a time do the trick for us.

It's a really difficult adjustment.

i measure out portions of chili and put them in baggies. Squish flat and freeze. They thaw out fast and make an easy, quick meal. Since my sleeve, me and the freezer are good buddies. I freeze almost everything because I just can't eat it before it goes bad.

Lynda

That's a brilliant idea! I'm sure I have baggies in the drawer...

So...did she who shall not be named get evicted?? It's almost frighteningly mellow....even with the band v. Sleeve v. RNY thing....
